If you think an Israeli superhero painting the nation in a positive light won’t have a tangible impact on the publics perception of the ongoing apartheid (was gonna say conflict but let’s go ahead and call it like it is) you’re willingly being blind to reality. It’s basically state propaganda and if you wanna watch it and enjoy it with no politics attached that’s fine but I hope you remember the Palestinians who have been driven from their homes and terrorized for decades don’t have that choice. Just sayin

I really don’t think having a super hero from Israel is going to do much for Israel in the eyes of most Americans just like having a Muslim American one is going to do much for Muslim Americans in the eyes of most Americans.

Idk maybe it’s just me but I haven’t noticed any attitudes towards other peoples or countries shifting because of the MCU lol

 

I just think what Israel is doing to Palestine is one of the biggest travesties of my lifetime and rivals the holocaust in terms of pure evil at work and it absolutely infuriates me to my core and believe this obvious propaganda bullshit is worth calling out every step of the way, but perhaps people feel differently and less passionately about the issue. Imagine if it was nazi germany times right now and the MCU announced an SS super hero

 

I realize this is a very complicated situation and I absolutely don't like what's happening to the Palestinians.

And yet at the same time, I'm sure there are a lot of Israeli out there that have nothing to do with the conflict, and to say they shouldn't have some kind of positive representation to show that not all Israelis are pieces of shit feels counterproductive to what our ultimate goal should be, which is to treat everyone, no matter where you come from, like a human being.

We don't know what this adaptation of the character is going to be like. We don't know what their background will be, or how they'll be presented in the movie.

 

There’s no need to introduce that much nuance, it’s not that complicated and we know not all Israelis are zionists but they aren’t the ones in power. The nation of Israel is brutally oppressing Palestinians, fuck Israel until it stops. Sophos is right outside of here on occasion I rarely see Israel criticized, their atrocities are hardly ever covered by major media outlets and it continues to be one of the worst modern oppressions. I do agree we don’t know what the movie or character will be but I understand the concern with perpetuating much of this country’s positive view of Israel with superhero representation while continuing to ignore or downplay the brutality against Palestinians. So when I see that there will be an Israeli superhero in a marvel movie which I won’t care too see anyway I too take it as an opportunity to say Fuck Israel, Free Palestine. It isn’t said enough.

try not looking at which country is sucking more and how they are sucking in the current present where israel is doing US 18-19th century settler colonialism in the 21st century.

 

unfortunately there is no way to "fuck the specific parts of israel that are responsible for terrible things" because the existence of the Israeli state is contingent upon the theft and occupation of Palestinian land the the oppression of the indigenous Palestinian people.

 

I'm going to admit I only know about as much about this as I read on here, but I'm pretty sure there is absolutely a way to separate the people that are responsible for misery from the people that aren't, because the Israeli people as a whole aren't all responsible for what's currently happening, are they?

I mean, David Harbour and Florence Pugh are reprising their roles as Red Guardian and Black Widow in Thunderbolts; are we upset at that too because of what the Russian government is currently doing to Ukraine?

 

Russia in Ukraine is not equatable to the Israel occupation of Palestine.

This is not a moral claim or indictment I make but a material one. In settler colonialism, that is the removal of the indigenous people from their land by a new people under a new state, the settlers are culpable.

also support of the israeli state as a "jewish state" is popular across the liberal - conservative spectrum.

 

They really made a movie starring an Israeli woman called "New World Order?" The conspiracy nuts must be losing it over this already.

 

i for one hope they adapt her in a way that Israel is not mentioned at all.

In my perfect fantasy land brain, I'd like to believe in a future where everyone just lives together and finds a place for everyone instead of squabbling over land for fucked up reasons. I'd like to believe that it's possible, and I'd like to believe there are people out there who feel the same way about it.
