I have so much anxiety living in this fucking country. I know there was a joke posted here about middle-age conservative dads talking about how they survey public situations like a Call Of Duty map, and it hit a little too close to home (liberal-socialist leaning here with firearm experience.) I’m a former service member, and yes I do this, but only because I’m terrified of a mass shooting event happening in a public spot I just so happen to be located. I’ve been doing it for years. I won’t be able to save anybody except the group I’m with, but I wish I didn’t have to think this way. I hate what all of these mass shooting events have done to my existence in public. I just want to relax and have a good time with my friends. Is that so much to ask?

wasnt sure where else was appropriate to post. I live in southern Maine, luckily I'm not near Lewiston but I'm still stressed the fuck out about all of this today since the guy could be almost anywhere by now. Waking up reading about at least 20 people being gunned down so close to where I live, even closer to my office in Kennebunk, its all I can think about right now and Im honestly still processing it all. Im so on edge at the moment. Pretty much every school within the state is closed today, driving into my office was eerie as fuck with noticeably less people on the roads today. And my wife is a teacher in Portsmouth, we're both constantly worried when/if this kind of thing will happen near us and here we are.

 

Hope you remain safe. My mom is up in Maine but fairly far out but her husband went to college in Lewiston and has family fairly close to that area. I get furiously pissed at any mass shooting and am terrified of being in one, but when its even closer to home it just makes me so much more frustrated.

Many experts consider figures provided by the ministry reliable, given its access, sources and accuracy in past statements.

“Everyone uses the figures from the Gaza Health Ministry because those are generally proven to be reliable,” said Omar Shakir, Israel and Palestine director at Human Rights Watch. “In the times in which we have done our own verification of numbers for particular strikes, I’m not aware of any time which there’s been some major discrepancy.”

Shakir said Human Rights Watch would not use figures provided by parties with “a propensity to misrepresent information.”

“We know that a health ministry is going to base [death tolls] on assessments coming from hospitals, morgues, et cetera,” he said. “They have an ability to collect that in a way that other sources not there can’t do.”
