This is the move and I highly suggest it for any progressive/leftist as well. There is a reason that Sam Seder gets avoided by all the Intellectual Dumb Web folks and he will willingly debate about anybody. Love his videos of him cooking Libertarians in debates. It's a perfect show because you get the "real" show and the fun half, which the real show is dry and has experts on while the fun half they dunk on all the right wing idiots and take calls from pretty much anyone.

perhaps someone sees they’re doing imperialism and then thinks wow I should not do that (highly doubtful.) They won’t know unless I say they’re being an imperialist and neither will other people.

I have a council member who is half decent by my standards but a “progressive.” She voted to support more funding to cops after taking a pledge not too and posturing against carceral solutions like not calling sanitation when homeless people are hanging by the book swap by the park. yet a organized group has been getting the word out saying she is voting pro-police. She is being pro-police and pro-carceral and pro Eric Adams.

 

yeah but if person is saying and doing a-x, and then also does y which is not in line with a-x, it does not in fact make them z. That kind of dumbass shit erasure of any sort of context and nuance puts a bad taste in peoples mouths and definitely ain’t gonna help in getting more people to your cause. Like why would any well informed leftist even want to enter politics knowing the second they take even one vote that goes against the dozen other votes they take to do something better, they’re gonna get lumped in with neocons by their Allies? What left leaning lib is going to see that and think oh that’s a movement I want to be a part of? Etc

True, I and/or others here have definitely said that the second one is not an obstacle or problem at all.

And also it's true that if one problem or obstacle exists, we shouldn't worry about any of the others, especially ones we may create ourselves, even unintentionally. That way we can continue to say dumb stuff like "cori bush is an imperialist" without having to do any thinking about why that's a dumb thing to say/do, or worry about how that may impact younger politically minded folks who are still learning and may want to get involved someday. It's not like younger generations are terminally online or seem to have a great interest in what is (or cold be) said about them online or anything.

 

wrong. what stops lefties, specifically the type that believe in the usefulness of pursuing electoral politics, from getting into government is right wing repression, much from it from Democrats.

 

as a non-member I clicked and it took me to the website asking for a sign in. So I'm guessing even if Jason had made it possible to embed them here (I think he was working on Mastadon trying to get that to work?), I don't know if it'll work if bluesky still has so only logged in users can see the site? I assume it would since twitter embeds work even though twitter apparently started asking for logins, but I know little and less about this haha.
