What's the tl;dr on why this golf thing is bad? Other than it being a huge waste of resources ;)

 

I think the LIV tour is backed by Saudi Arabia and I know there was vocal criticism of players joining it because of that. I also think a lot of it was just purists loyal to the PGA. Funny how Americans pick and choose when to be mad about affiliating with Saudi Arabia.

 

LIV was a sportswashing/legitimacy play by Saudi and this merger is essentially a total victory for them and presumably puts them in a very influential position over the entire sport

Yeah, LIV is/was a huge sportswashing play and also a way for them to backchannel money to Trump through his golf courses.

Using sponsorship of a sport (or team or league) to try and cover up bad acts elsewhere. Basically using the goodwill usually associated with sports to try and "wash" away human rights abuses, etc.

 

Sure, not sure there's ever been a sports league created solely for that purpose though

Why is anyone shocked by anything sports related being tied to conservative views? I’d argue the majority of athletes are def conservative.

 

I think it varies by sport but I definitely associate golf with republicans lol

 

Those are certainly three possibilities. There's another big one that it feels like is being willfully and purposefully excluded though.....

 

Had to talk to my boss twice this week about my cubicle neighbor’s anti-trans bullshit. I’ve been here a couple months and have heard her go on the same anti-trans tirade no less than 6 times. She did it to a new lawyer that just started yesterday and I had enough. Today she was listening aloud to some bullshit anti-trans propaganda. Like regardless of your weird hateful agenda, are you also unware of basic office etiquette? Of course she is because she’s a fucking idiot. Apparently the CEO is now aware. We’ll see if it makes a difference. She also farted really loud the other day.
