AWS has a huge outage right now; pretty much our entire cloud tech company can't do any work right now, haha

  2. Yep, our software is all fucked up too lol

Holy shit that's no good. Not seeing any issues in our AWS apps so far, though I've seen some errors loading up CloudWatch logs

Yeah sounds like it's specifically with their East network, so not the entirety of AWS across the US

Yeah I'm on us-east-1 so I'm surprised we aren't getting any errors from our monitoring jobs, but definitely cannot view any of our logs atm

Why does our society (not just in America, but the developed world) constantly ask celebrities or people of notoriety what their thoughts on large issues is? I don’t give a fuck what this doofus thinks about literally anything. Same with Alyssa Milano or really any celebrity. They should all just shut the fuck up. Reach a certain level of income that insulates you from normal problems in this country? You stop getting the opportunity to speak publicly about it because you don’t live the realities of the world.

  9. I don't think celebrity culture is gonna go away in my lifetime. (But it's been wild to all of a sudden realize I don't know who the celebrities actually are anymore.)

Thankfully my partner and I were able to get tested this morning. Now the wait begins on getting the results back. Hoping our symptoms stay how they are and don't end up getting worse.

If anything, with the increase in media outlets over the last however many years, and the rise of YouTube/twitch/etc, celebrity culture is only going to intensify unfortunately.

It seems to be pretty regionally specific though. That PA to WI stretch (and I guess Iowa too).

I agree completely. I hate when news sites publish stories about what this celebrity thinks about something they have no expertise on or are insulated from, and it’s happening more and more every year. We really don’t need to be amplifying their opinions to “news”, keep it in the tabloids

There's a constant dichotomy: "Who cares what celebrities think about world issues?" and "Why doesn't X celebrity use their platform to talk about world issues?". People don't like it when people spout nonsense and/or when celebrities are silent on issues.

Feels like podcasts have taken that route as well with any of the new, hot podcasts are all based off who the celebrity is hosting and what celebrity guest they have on. Not to mention the only people getting real money via podcasts are already rich celebrities.

We don’t like when celebrities are silent about sexual assault in their own industry, and reporting on their responses to those stories is important. We don’t like reporting on their opinions about student loan forgiveness or the impact of covid 19 stay at home orders on unemployment because they are not knowledgeable on, or impacted by those issues and their opinions don’t deserve to be amplified to any importance. It’s not that hard really to discern the dichotomy.

  24. As someone that's run "news" based websites for most of my life, people chase what gets views. Celebrities now being able to go straight to Instagram, Twitter, etc. and their massive audiences on those platforms shows the demand for their opinions on everything, as long as that demand is there, there's a massive incentive to cover it. It's what people want to know about, from as far back as the style/entertainment sections of newspapers being what helped fund the "hard" news of newspapers decades ago. Spending anytime looking in the replies of any semi-famous person is ... harrowing. People want to know everything and take it really far. (The stuff I used to see when AP.net was really popular was terrifying. Take that times 1000.)
