  5. 98 Million TikTok Followers Can’t Be Wrong
Collab day at Clubhouse Beverly Hills was scheduled to start at 2 p.m., but that time came and went and the mansion was still as sleepy as a college dorm on Saturday morning. In one of the house’s four living rooms, an enormous oil painting of George Washington loomed over a pale leather couch. A whiteboard listed ideas for future TikTok videos: shooting range, wine tasting, go-karts, Joshua Tree. Outside, by the sparkling pool, the lawn was studded with statues of Greek gods and human-size hamster balls.

In the kitchen, Casius Dean, an 18-year-old from Hawaii who moved to Los Angeles on his coronavirus stimulus check and is now a full-time photographer at the house, told me that the weekly collab days are an occasion for “people with different levels of social media to create together.” A videographer breezed through on his way to Starbucks. “The girls don’t even have their makeup on,” he said, rolling his eyes. The only one who appeared ready was Teala Dunn, the house’s oldest resident at 23, who was wandering around the mansion in a bright-turquoise bikini

    I ... am .... old.

Of course there's got to be some Christmas Simpsons episodes thrown in over the season.

    Grift of the Magi
Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire
    Miracle on Evergreen Terrace
and of course, Marge Be Not Proud

Are there any important states that still need certifying or are all the battleground ones done? Hard to keep track of what's still out there.

I love how this map almost inversely predicts how badly each country was hit/handled the pandemic. Many of the "least prepared" countries have been able to suppress the pandemic without suffering anywhere the deaths we have

It's not sufficient but at least money will be distributed to communities that have been impacted by the opioid epidemic:

Purdue agreed to pay $225 million toward a $2 billion criminal forfeiture, meanwhile, with the Justice Department foregoing the rest if the company completes a bankruptcy reorganization dissolving itself and shifting assets to a “public benefit company” or similar entity that steers the $1.775 billion unpaid portion to thousands of U.S. communities suing it over the opioid crisis.

Maybe I'm being cynical, but these people's fame will dwindle and they'll be replaced by the next batch of influencers. I wonder how many of them will be able to integrate into a normal life. I feel like it's worse than being a child actor because at least if you keep a level head, you can go from child actor to actor and maintain a long career. For these tik tok stars, what's after being famous on tik tok? They're famous because they're famous (aka young/attractive and in touch with, or even setting, the trends). That'll end, then what? It's amazing that kids look up to tik tok and youtube stars now and think it's what they want to be when they grow up, not realizing that it's most likely just a short stop on the way to growing up. Maybe half of them are talented and have a good business sense and will do fine with the money they made, but I see a lot of these stars as disastrous adults in the making. I don't have kids but if I did, I'd spend so much time stressing about how to moderate the content they consume and the messages they're taking in.

There’s a BBQ restaurant just outside of Toronto currently serving mask-less customers indoors and purposely defying lockdown orders in the cities. They made posts on social media announcing their plans and ranted about the usual freedom, government control, anti-mask rhetoric, etc. To make things worse, they’ve been blasting Rage Against the Machine inside the restaurant all day.

The police and the city were made aware of their plans and moved in on the restaurant this morning and did.. absolutely nothing. It was determined they “need more time to investigate” and that the restaurant could remain open serving customers indoors without masks.

We live in the dumbest fucking society.

    Defund the Police.
