Not going anywhere for thanksgiving. Probably not for Christmas either at this rate. Really feel bad because my parents haven see their 16 month old granddaughter since she was about 5 months old but it’s still just not worth the risk. My parents aren’t in perfect health so it’s not an easy decision either way.

I told my parents today that we wouldn't be coming for Thanksgiving this year. Since three of my brothers are deployed and a fourth is down in FL for law school, I was the only one who had a chance of going. Even though my mom had invited us, I got the sense that she was super relieved we weren't going to be there, especially since my wife commutes by train to NYC.

 

This reminds me of a conversation with my 4-year old daughter yesterday:

Her: Is today the weekend?
Me: No. That was yesterday and Saturday.
Her: Why is the weekend only 2 days and not-the-weekend is so many days?
Me: Capitalism.
Her: What's that?
Me: Umm . . . what do you think should be more important - money or spending time with your family?
Her: Spending time with your family.
Me: Well capitalism says money is more important.

Indoctrinate them while they’re young. At that age, their brains are like sponges, soak up all the information you give them.

 

She just threw her brother's teddy bear in the toilet, but I don't think that was her expressing anti-materialism.

im having the same struggle w thanksgiving and being in the boat of feeling like piece of shit no matter what i do. trying to gauge whether my parents honestly want me to come up for that weekend or they just dont want to tell me not to and are leaving the ball in my court. im heavily leaning on not going cuz theyve been quarantining at home this whole time meanwhile ive been back at work since late april and im on the road all over the place everday and some of my coworkers are being jackasses outside of work so im concerned about bringing it to them.

grandparents want me to have dinner w them thanksgiving day, absolutely cant do that. their not deniers afaik but they seem to have a lax attitude that since their in their 90s and dont have many years left fuck it its in gods hands. just learned their retirement home have had staff members test positive recently and theyre letting visitors in the residents apartments again anyway wtf? like i dont get it theyre not a business so theyre not losing money by trying to protect ppl so why smh

I'm so happy that my aunt that I don't have a relationship with hosts Thanksgiving. We haven't gone for years. Looking forward to our anti-turkey Thanksgiving meal at home.
