It's just, when I read the tweets here, etc I keep having to remind myself how much of a bigger symbolic meaning the term socialism has in these political discussions in the US.

I think, at least on a semantic, discursive level it is comparable to Hitler-comparisons in Germany. In the US u throw out such a comparison much faster than here, where it would be a huge outcry (understandably)
