so, we had like a day, huh

 

in an office of maybe ten people, my coworker and her husband tested positive for COVID over the weekend. a great start to this week already.

 

So... I guess Biden's de facto president starting now? Not complaining

So the vaccine news is why Pence is finally holding another coronavirus task force conference and it’s not because the virus has been out of control. These people are such cowards.

To add, and this more of my quick list of obvious failures of the past and watchlist on the new admin as well:
-lead in water completely unaddressed even as the children in Flint were poisoned and people were crying out for help. The Trump administration actually came in and revised the lead and copper rule, and while those revisions are pretty weak, it’s shameful that Obama did nothing with it for 8 years. The rule should be revised to require all lead lines be replaced, just has Michigan has done with its state rule.
-oil and gas drilling. The gas boom ravaged areas of the US under Obama and has accelerated climate catastrophe. Of course I think a ban is appropriate but it went virtually unregulated under Obama at every stage except for energy generation. No pollutant controls or measures for extraction and no federal regulation of its radioactive waste. Shameful and destructive.
-climate justice. Seriously what the hell investigate and prosecute those responsible for concealing info and destroying the planet.
-housing. More public housing. Get rid of racist drug possession or use restrictions in obtaining and maintaining public housing. Again it’s insane that didn’t happen in 8 years under Obama.
-Israel/Palestine. Not a lot of hope for this one given Biden’s comments but we can’t talk about justice and fairness and continue to ignore our enabling of the oppression of the Palestinian people.

I have more I’m sure and I’ll probably be repeating myself in this thread the next 4 years, meaning I’ll be posting in her until I’m almost 40! It’s small but I have to admit it feels better bringing these things up knowing the people in power at least pretend to care. A shred of hope keeps me going.

 

Yes. The whole world conspired, accepting countless deaths and destroyed lifes, in order to undermine Trump.

Srsly, fuck everybody who is tries to downplay covid, be it in the US or here in Europe. I am so sick of Covid. So so so fucking sick. I handed in my dissertation in March one day before we went into lockdown. Didn't have that sweet post-phd-phase where you can enjoy life again for a bit. and i am still fucking privileged: i have a job, am healthy, and so is my family. i am so fucking tired of covid, but our only chance at beating this shit, is if we abide to the rules and stop making up fucking conspiracies.

I am so tired of Covid, but even more tired of all this conspiracy shit.

At least they’re doing that. My wife has had 3 cases confirmed in her building the last few weeks and our state public health department doesn’t even consider you a “close contact” unless you spent time around said person without a mask. School (in a very lightly attended hybrid fashion, granted) continues to stay open. So frustrating.
