I guess i worry that the lack of specifics signals a lack of commitment to relief in general, which would leave a massive opening for republicans in 2022

It's probably the desperation speaking, but I'm willing to get excited about proposals like student loan forgiveness and stimulus checks, free COVID testing while also acknowledging that that will likely only be the start.

 

It's definitely on the lackluster side. I don't know how recent the plan is, but I imagine it has been on his website for some time now. Would be good for him to come out with an updated stimulus plan for what he would like to see congress put together and him to sign as President.

 

i think a $10K loan-debt reduction is good, although i hope continued forbearance is in there too. Stimulus checks are good too but if they are means-tested that will be a problem.

I’m not saying this out of some weird purity-testing impulse. I just think if Dems don’t address this boldly, they’re going to allow republicans a massive opening and keep us sliding down the table towards fascism. 2022 and 2024 will come quick. Anything resembling austerity - which i am fairly nervous could be the Dems approach - will fuck this country irrevocably. It feels like a missed opportunity politically as well as morally.

I totally agree. I guess any kind of optimism right now is something I'm taking as good. If the Dems win it all, they absolutely have to be radical with their emergency plan, especially after the Republicans starved people for so long.
