Throughout all this I have still have been doing things like going to stores, seeing a couple of my friends to hangout, etc. so I admit I certainly hadn’t been as “careful” as some of you in here, and so I understand my starting steps are different than others.

But once I’m fully vaccinated I think I’ll definitely be going and doing some fun ‘riskier’ things like go to Atlantic City and hit the casinos, go to amusement parks, stuff like that, and be able to feel safe doing so. Give me an outdoor concert this summer and I am so down to go.

Absolutely shocked no one has come up with and popularized a livestrong esque bracelet to publicly show you’ve been vaccinated.

I was thinking the exact same thing! It seems like it could be a huge short term boon to make them.

That movie Contagion basically laid out the blueprint for what a semi competent response to a pandemic would look like (and even in the movie it was not good enough)....and we didn't even come close to that. The vaccination cards instead of the bracelets seems dumb lol.

Until i can be reasonably sure that the workers where ever I am are vaccinated, it's tough for me to rationalize going out to places. The Covid tracker from NPR someone posted in here had a great graph that showed you your state's estimated herd immunity % and Michigan at their current rates were estimated to hit 75% by August.

California is apparently looking like 85% by August 1st. Not sure how that’s expected if kids can’t even get vaccinated.

Children make less than 10% of California's population, so getting people 16+ (which all in America are now eligible at 16+ years old, if your state hasn't already made that decision) is key.

3 out of 5 people in Michigan currently have not had their first shot. Cannot imagine enjoying a restaurant or a movie or going to a store just to wander until that number changes dramatically.

Yeah, my feelings on this is that I want to see community spread significantly go down before I significantly change the way I live my life. I will probably forgo double masking next week when I officially count as "fully protected" and will be going to baseball games starting in May (probably won't eat there, but at 20% capacity outdoors I feel fairly ok with it).

But the "well, if I can't change my life immediately after getting the vaccine, why would I even bother?" is such an individualistic argument. If everyone gets the vaccine then everyone's lives could go back to normal permanently in just a few months. But if everything immediately opens up when community transmission is at its pre-winter peak high, we're still going to exist in this in-between state for quite a bit longer.

No one said if I can’t change my life immediately why even bother. But if you’re going to live exactly the same for the next 6 months and you’re fully vaccinated I don’t get it. That’s cool if that’s what you want to do I guess but don’t judge people for slowly returning to normal either.

I'm not saying anyone here is taking that position but it's clearly a popular position in much of America, including among our elected officials (see Ted Cruz)

My fiancé is going back to work in retail before I'm fully vaxxed and I'm kinda nervous about it. The good news is she's fully vaxxed with J&J and I'm 10 days in on my first Pfizer dose, so I should be like 80% safe? That's as good as J&J, right?

Luckily the owner is very strict about masks and only lets in 6 customers at a time.

My wife and I are both waiting for our second dose of Pfizer. We both had COVID in early February. I am three weeks into my first Pfizer dose and she's two weeks into her first dose. My second shot is Friday and hers is May 7. Between having COVID + 1st Dose, we feel pretty good about being protected - but we still aren't really doing much, if anything at all. We have some getaways planned for the summer, so hopefully the vaccination rates continue to increase throughout Ohio/rest of the country.

My personal opinion is that people in the US are rushing it to get back to normal so-to-speak, but I don't really see at this point how there could be any other way. There are a lot of other countries that are a completely different story because of how much better they managed this thing in the first place. We still have an extremely high number of daily new cases as a country, and many states - mine included - are in what is considered a high rate of completely uncontrolled spread. Our testing and contact tracing is still a fucking joke in this country. So really, all we have is vaccinating people. I guess people just have to decide for themselves what level of risk feels okay to them and go with that.

For me, it will have to wait until my kids are able to be vaccinated.

If you've ever seen how much people suffer with this before they die a horrible death I just can't picture rolling the dice so you can go eat at fucking Chili's.
