Actually kinda sucks this is getting my every tripped up and all over each other when there are actually some other really good things in the bill to talk about ($15 min wage, $130 billion to schools, 14 weeks of paid family and medical leave, $$ for vaccine ramp up, etc)

There’s literally no reason to not try for $2000 lol. By arguing for $1400 you gain absolutely nothing and stand to lose so much, as is evidenced by the backlash we are already seeing. Even if it was always 100% clear that they only wanted the $1400 increase, they should just say “We’ve changed our mind, make it $2000.”

Like, they should be arguing for more than $2000 because they have the actual power to do it! Instead they fall back into typical Dem fashion and bargain themselves down before even getting to the table

biden shouldn't really get props for being only a little better than literally the worst president in the history of our country. the bar has been set so fucking low that as long as biden doesn't use the bar to club 4,400 people a day to death than he is an improvement, but we still have to push for him to do a little better than that.

And yeah, there is some other stuff in there that is really good, possibly even surprisingly so - but that still doesn't mean we should give him a pass for the $2000 but actually really only $1400 thing.

with the 2022 map the best course of action for them is to definitely argue with the public about messaging around 1400 vs 2000 there definitely won't be any consequences at all

Do they? There is no indication on whether any in the GOP support this and fuckface Manchin might not be okay with “$2600”

I mean there is definitely a reason not to put too much in if it causes it to fail in the senate and delays giving people anything at all. This bill already does a lot of good things and I think it's worth passing it rather than risk a delay.

  9. There's some really good stuff in here, even before the vaccine rollout stuff which also looks good.

Y’all...Biden is gonna do plenty of shit the next 4 years that are going to make us cringe and be disappointed. We reallllly don’t need to pretend like we didn’t know the Dems were pushing to bump the $600 to $2000, not do an extra $2000 on top.

I say push for $2000 because it would be best but please, the fake “biden lied/went back on his promise!” is some dishonest dumb shit. Cmon, man.

I mean the no universal healthcare during a pandemic is really angering. I won’t tell anyone not to be disappointed, I know if the moratorium on evictions continues to be weak I will be. Seeing people get evicted every week during a pandemic is enough to make you hate everyone in power who isn’t doing enough. But I also recognize how good it is to be disappointed in legislation that actually is doing a lot to help considering what we’ve been through with Mitch at the helm.

100% using ours to pay off CC debt, same with our tax return which should now be about $8500-$9000. Will be helping us out immensely, and should then be debt free in about 12-18 months after, if we're strict with ourselves.

I think a lot of people genuinely thought he meant an extra 2,000. I can’t pretend I didn’t know better but I’ll just sit back and hope the people that didn’t get me an extra 600.

    Same here.

Though, I’d much prefer it if the concerted outrage was directed at the failure to make it either retroactive, monthly going forward, or both.

I didn't know they were planning on bumping the $600 up to $2000 by doing an additional $1400. I'm not pretending or lying about that just for fake outrage.

Plus, I really feel like people are telling us we shouldn't be disappointed. Just because something isn't surprising doesn't mean it isn't also disappointing.

I always assumed it meant 2000 INSTEAD of 600, 2000 AND 600, but regardless, 2000 is still insultingly low.

Like I'm still a dependent so I won't even get a check, but damn I feel bad for y'all.

Biden literally reiterated it after the $600 checks had started going out. So definitely seemed like another $2000.
