Edit: to speak to the point he's making - I don't believe the left thinks they're "entitled" to a socialist future, they just recognise the reality that the ascendancy of pete-types is a roadblock to leftist aims. I dont see how that is a sign of being out of touch.

I hate Pete specifically because he is a threat to the goals of the left, correct. How is that not being *about* him? The same thing could be said about any other Dem.

The reason anyone cares and talks more about Pete than any other appointee is because he was just one of the major primary candidates so he and his views are better known. This isn’t hard

i read that as saying not that they’re out of touch because they (correctly maybe?)believe that about Pete, but rather they’re out of touch with the country at large and what the country wants/is willing to support/allow/etc.

But it’s all bullshit because a few hundred thousand American leftists on Twitter isn’t real life and Pete isn’t going to win or lose because of them. Unless you get the rare thing that breaks through to the mainstream normies like the “bernie supporters keep attacking me on social media” narrative that cropped up during the primaries, I think this election showed us once again that at the end of the day it’s still a popularity contest. Who do I like more, who do I think is a nice person, who am I most comfortable with, etc. (and also people playing pundit with their votes with “electability”/who can win thoughts). If Pete can be that person, he’ll probably win. If he can’t, he won’t. The leftists on Twitter most likely will not stop or cause that. But Matt y lives on Twitter so, much like other people who live on Twitter, they’ve become convinced that’s what most of the country is like about politics. Meanwhile most of the country is like *shrug* about politics lol
