  2. much more tankie than DSA or SAlt, anti-electoral and more focused on anti-imperialism as well, the causes they come out and demo for seem mostly good but I've heard disturbing things about them protecting abusers in their ranks, but I can't claim to know for sure about any of that. Also, theyve definitely posted some cringe shit about like, launching a guerilla war against the US government from the swamps of florida. very silly

I do appreciate their anti-imperialism for sure. There seem to be people more geared towards decolonization as well.

Like Wharf said, SA is an actual political party with a concise Marxist ideology, whereas DSA is basically just a big tent organization meant for...organizing. And also before 2016 SA already had decent (and younger) membership in multiple cities across the country while DSA was like 95% retirees. In the grand scheme of things most of these orgs all look the same bc they have generally similar beliefs and are typically limited to grassroots activism, but their minutae can make a big difference day-to-day. There are a lot of even smaller socialist orgs in the TC that are basically just book clubs lol

I joined SA in 2017 bc they were leading Fight For $15 and had the Ginger Jentzen campaign in Mpls while the DSA here was still mostly getting off the ground at the time. But since then I got sick of them bc they weren’t doing much and I was busy enough with law school. Also they insist on having a physical newspaper which I think is ridiculously embarrassing in 2020. But I recall people in SA and DSA getting along despite occasional digs at each other based on ideological shit that I think is a complete waste of time lol. And I know a lot of people here who have gone from one group to the other. They’re both so relatively small that imo the only real concern should be *who is actually doing shit* vs who is just sitting around posturing as leftists

I will say that having attended both SA and DSA meetings, I think SA has their system down so much better. In the TC there’s enough people that there are several branches that meet on different days of the week, and each branch has like 10-15 people, so you get to know the people in your branch pretty well, and there are occasional shifts every once a while. But the (typical) meetings themselves start by anyone chiming in about news from the past week and a little discussion about that, then some member will give a prepared presentation about any random topic as part of like an on-going “educational” side of the org — can be anything from a major event of the past few weeks to major historical events to more abstract ideological stuff to certain political policies. Then when they finish after like 10-20min there’s a group discussion that. Then the last ~20min of the meeting is about any upcoming events or proposals for actions going forward. And then also the entire TC membership meets on a specific date a couple times a year

I'm definitely scared of what might happen if they do. Especially if a curfew is announced..
