There are obvious bots on Taylor's tweet rn ugh. Copy/pastes of mothers who are outraged and that she lost a bunch of fans and will never take her daughters to see her again (paraphrasing)

I know Ryan Timlin and he’s a member of Socialist Alternative so I would have been extremely weirded out if he let the union’s response be anything less than this lol

Well shite, everything I read on them seemed legit but this is a head-scratcher.

 

Any idea on why Socialist Alternative is a thing when DSA also exists? Why not merge?

SAlt is Trot, theyd never merge with socdems

 

What're the goals of SAlt and how are they different from DSA? I know very little about them

 

Eventually all these orgs will have to merge if we want to build a real movement/vehicle for change. So far the DSA seems like the most likely face of that but we'll see.

 

Looking more into it, it seems like they are more less socdem politically with the trotskyism more just underlying ideology than informing tactics. Pretty similar to DSA overall - but they predate DSA's revival in 2016, Sawant in Seattle is SAlt for example and she was elected in 13. Any merger is probably mostly being blocked by personalities, or SAlt feeling like they've earned their independence by establishing themselves prior to DSA. Which isn't unfair. But also, I doubt the subject has even been broached, so these are less reasons blocking the merger than reasons preventing such conversations even starting. SAlt also probably has less internal strife - DSA is so broad from bernie people to straight up communists that it seems like they spend most of their time trying to resolve internal conflicts. SAlt has a defined ideology, a stated position on the USSR, etc, they are much more like a 20th century american socialist org than modern DSA.
