I was just about to ask this actually. Like if I send in my mail-in ballot a few days before the election, and then go in person to vote and fill out the form, obviously they aren't going to count both of my votes once they see that I already voted one way and then get another vote under my name the other way, but does that nullify both of them or will they just accept whichever one they counted first?

*and to the government who is reading this, I do not actually plan on doing that*

  3. I’m still unsure how to come to terms with 1200 people died today and it’s barely news at all.

  5. Pretty sure if you come in and have already mailed in you can request a provisional ballot.

So they would just count the provisional ballot and nullify the one you mailed in?

I'm generally not one for conspiracy theories, but I fully believe Peta has been infiltrated by meat industry agents who use it to give vegetarians/vegans a bad wrap

Yeah I'd have to track down what I read about my state but I feel like I came across an FAQ that said something like:

    1. They'll count whichever they received first

    Or

    2. They'll override the absentee with your in-person vote

Can't remember which, I'd have to do some hunting because I can't remember where I came across it heh. I'd hope it wouldn't nullify it! I was curious mainly because of the USPS issues and wanted to be sure I could vote in-person if they didn't receive mine in time

*depending on the state* this is correct. state election systems will be able to tell if someone votes or not by mail and whether or not to count the in person ballot based on that. provisional ballots are counted after mail in/regular ballots are counted.

So, to Barr's point, it isn't really absurd for him to say he isn't familiar with a certain states' election laws, as much as we love to hate the guy lol

More the fact that he’s covering up for his boss’ insistence that his supporters knowingly commit voter fraud. I’m not really fazed by his lack of knowledge on voter laws.

i mean, also not really. the question was based on trump saying "vote twice to prove the system works" and they asked barr if it's illegal to vote twice and he said he didn't know in order to deflect the premise of the question that trump was encouring people to do someting illegal. he wasn't answering in good faith haha

My mom is a nurse in the palliative unit so she’s surrounded by death every day. We had a conversation about this a couple months ago. One death can be an utter tragedy for that persons’ family and friends. It’s mind boggling that there’s 1,000+ a day.

oh god, I was about to link to a PETA page explaining why they euthanasize dogs and cats as a show of hypocrisy but the pictures they post is fucking heartbreaking

I know you probably have no idea lol, here in NJ we are only doing provisional ballots in person, no voting machines or anything, so do you think that means that any of the votes in person on Election Day wouldn’t be counted until like a week after the election once the mail-in ballots have been all counted?

Oh yeah, totally fair, I agree it's 1000% in bad faith. Was just saying technically, it could be legal to do both in one particular state, it'd just either nullify both or nullify one of them depending on where

You can vote provisionally if you claim you never returned it. Provisionals aren't counted until the day after the election.

    Q. When is a voter to be given a provisional ballot?
    A. There are four types of voters who are to vote by provisional ballot:
    1. The voter whose name is not in the poll book or whose voter registration is deficient (e.g., the signature is missing).
    2. The voter who moved outside of the election district of record, but within the county, and did not inform the county commissioner of registration before the election. Because voters generally are to vote in the election district in which they live on election day, that voter’s name will not be in the proper poll book on election day. This voter will have to vote by provisional ballot because the district board will not know if the person is a registered voter in the county.
    3. The voter who is classified as an “Active Need ID” or “Inactive Needs ID” and shows up at the polls without any ID.
    4. The voter whose name in the poll book is marked with a “M” or “Mail-in” for mail-in ballot, but who claims he or she never applied for, received, or returned a mail-in ballot.

    Q. What is the provisional ballot process?
    A. The affected voter is to be given a provisional ballot and a provisional ballot envelope. Attached to the envelope is an affirmation statement. The voter is to vote the ballot, insert it in the envelope and complete the affirmation statement. N.J.S.A. 19:53C-5, N.J.S.A. 19:53C-6.
NOTE: No provisional ballot is to be counted at the polling place by the district board workers (unlike the emergency ballots). The provisional ballots are to be brought back to the county commissioner of registration for verification and counting by the county board of election. This process commences the day after the election. If the county commissioner of registration determines the person is not a registered voter, the provisional ballot is not counted, but the affirmation statement is processed as a voter registration form for future elections.
