Im sure not everyone feels this way, but for me, I think admitting you were wrong and apologizing for past positions goes a long way with politicians. It’s one of the reasons I really liked Gillibrand. She didn’t try to make excuses or defend her past conservative positions on gun control and immigration, she simply said she was wrong and ashamed of those positions and should have cared more about them.

Politicians can evolve on issues, just like any other person can. They learn more about it and listen to people’s experiences and it can change their view. Now that’s different than just flip flopping on issues based on what’s convenient for you or caters to your big donors. So if Harris comes out and says she understand the concerns with her record and that many of the things she did as prosecutor were wrong and apologizes for them, that would be an excellent start to feeling more comfortable about having her in such a significant position of power.

Far too often politicians simply want to defend defend defend and refuse to admit they are wrong. Obviously, that’s Trump’s entire personality. And I won’t pretend that Biden hasn’t been guilty of that too.

Apparently, NJ has a pretty decent system for them, but I can say that my wife and I didn't even know until the last few weeks. We're generally pretty tuned into these things, so that does not bode well for the greater electorate.
