we're talking about if transgender men are men. they are. being a man is a gender construct. a transgender man is a man and a transgender woman is a woman. it has nothing to do with 'biological sex' (which in itself a much more complicated subject than you seem to realize)

 

If I were confused about transgenderism I would listen to trans people and scientists who study gender and sexuality, not right wing shitbirds.

i had no idea what it was until someone who used to post on this site (or rather ap) that i was pretty good friends with came out to me and explained what it was. i think i was around 18 or 19 years old at the time? its really as simple as listening to people's lived experiences to gain perspective on what its all about and what it means.

 

i didn't learn until Laura Jane Grace came out.

 

that also shed more light on it for me as well. if people would just.....listen.....its really not that hard to grasp

see how when you say you'll back up your claims you don't clarify that you will need "real scientific proof" yet that was necessary for you to add for me? Seems like talking down to me.

Yup. You gotta be willing to listen though. And I think for a lot of people, its very easy to not listen when its just a stranger saying things. But when its a friend, or its someone like Laura who has built up enough of a platform that you're willing to pay attention to her, then you listen and hopefully it all clicks.

often times I see people frame understanding different view points as this wholly logical thing to deconstruct when it's essentially supposed to be an empathetic process.

 

Seeing Against Me! play an outdoor show 15 mins from my apartment a couple of years ago was surreal. That lineup slayed. AM! headline, pup, camp cope, petal, mewithoutyou and murder by death.

Yeah. Shut down the street and put up a stage with food and beer booths and then a bunch of art at the other end. Tickets were like $25 or something cheap I think. It was basically the best show imaginable.

I genuinely, still, don't believe Ramona has any harmful intent, although the actual harm of her words is of course very real. I just think this shit is so good at convincing people they've considered the subject thoroughly and "objectively" when they've done anything but. To me it feels lazy and irresponsible to just write off someone like this as a lost cause - if Joe fucking Rogan can persuade her then surely we can? - but I don't know how you break down that wall other than with persistence?

Also, shout out to @sophos34 who has been bringing the goods in terms of resources. I'm definitely not as well versed in this area as I could be so I'll be taking a good look myself. Sucks to hear that even after DMing her nothing has budged.

 

Waking up to this notification made my blood boil. The accompanying article was bad too. The media massively fucking up covering our descent into outright fascism.
