One, multiquote is a helpful tool. Try hitting "quote" instead of "reply," quoting multiple posts at once, then inserting those quotes all into one post. This whole seven posts in a row thing is exhausting.

Two, dropping YouTube videos often isn't a super helpful tool. Especially when it's someone like Bret Weinstein, who's part of that same reactionary crew as Jordan Peterson, Ben Shapiro, Joe Rogan, & Sam Harris, the self-proclaimed "intellectual dark web" (what an awful nickname).

 

It has to be trolling at this point.

 

Ok will do. Also the one I just posted where he's asking people of color their opinions????? Do you think those people of colors voices should be silenced because they agreed to talk with him?

Also why do people assume I am trolling? Can people seriously not recognize when someone is making an honest effort anymore? Is that where we're at?

 

tbh I am mostly just reacting and discussing information that comes up in mine or others feeds (here, fb, twitter, IG) with people I'm close to. I don't really have a "favorite". I've been on a big kill your idols kick. Especially for the kind of discussions you seem to be trying to have it becomes very muddy waters because a lot a people are trying to attack the left/anticapitalist in bad faith (almost all of joe rogan's guests) rather than critique it.

This is sort of a developing feeling of mine also so I'm not sure fully how I feel yet or have found anyone with anything solid I've latched onto, but I do know Rogan isn't critical/smart enough to provide any real insight to these issues and most of his guests have an agenda I don't think you or anyone else should be on board with.

 

When you're talking to people, you have to consider your audience.

When you go out of your way to reiterate talking points and positions that are widely viewed with contempt/disregard among your audience, it's going to come across as trolling, because you have to know deep down that you won't change anyone's mind.

Yeah, this site is an echochamber of sorts, but it's because the vast majority of people here subscribe to some socially leftist ideology.

So if you want to make your argument in good faith, you need to appeal to our pre-existing ideology. Weinstein, Rogan, Taibbi are all reactionary social centrists whose arguments don't appeal to the social ideologies of people on this forum, and you have to be smart enough to know treating those people won't give your arguments any credibility on this forum.

 

Here's the thing, though. No demographic or identity is a monolith. If a person wants to prove their point, the world's big enough that they can probably find the right kind of token mouthpiece to prove it. Someone like Kanye West, or Candace Owens, or Blaire White, or the countless young blonde white women that conservative media likes to cycle through, etc.

So, when I see that the video is from "Bret Weinstein's Dark Horse Podcast," I don't really care to spend an extended amount of time parsing through what the POC he hand picked to be on his podcast have to say. Not because I think their experiences as POC are invalidated by the other aspects of their (likely) worldview, but because those experiences will be interpreted & filtered through that worldview in such a way that will skew those genuine experiences. (And, if anyone's on there without that Bret Weinstein worldview, trying to engage in good faith with someone they disagree with... since he's the one in charge, he will likely skew things instead.)

And before this gets misunderstood, I want to clarify that I don't exclusively listen to people who I completely agree with. Sometimes I like someone's perspective in one way, in spite of a major disagreement in another area. (As a Christian with leftist politics... this is quite common for me, actually, lol.) But, sometimes an ideology is so toxic that it contaminates everything else beyond me wanting to actively engage each of their individual points. Which, is a healthy distinction to be able to make.

I like to think YouTube can be a useful outlet if used by someone who knows how to find good credible sources and what and who to watch out for.

YouTube is a scary ass place, y'all. My recommendations these days mostly consist of Blackpink, Red Letter Media, & streamers playing Super Mario Maker, lol, but occasionally the algorithm throws a random curveball, & I'll be like... why?

 

ive already tried explaining why bret weinstein is full of shit to her in a DM, and she goes ahead and posts him in this thread anyway, so good to know nothing i said in our private convo was considered

 

bread tube kinda sucks tho tbh. people like thought slime and jack saint fall right into the same trap as the right wing grifters and spend way too much time on inconsequential grievances that do not matter. contra rules though but her videos especially as of late are verrrrrry long and not exactly accessible to beginners. or maybe its just me that sees a video over 20 minutes long and instantly clicks out unless its like, super relevant to my interests

she is good at un-redpilling people. that's about there's a lot of value in that. its a skill that the most informed person just doesn't have. like i think a lot of people here no what's what but as evidenced by everyone's experience its buy dunking on people until theyre set straight.
