I have had very good experiences with @RamonaQuimby outside of the politics thread. But that goes out the window with vehemently supporting people who use the popularity of the alt right to draw views while shirking all responsibility. Then doubled down with the TERF talking points on top of saying blatantly racist things about China and Chinese people in regards to coronavirus and whatnot. And it’s especially frustrating because I’ve been EXACTLY where she is:

I watched probably 15+ hours of the Joe Rogan experience. I became “radicalized” by Bill Maher in my early 20s when I thought he was fighting for free speech (spoiler, he’s not). It’s an easy trap to fall into and the thread gave points about Joe platforming nazis, TERFS, anti-vaxxers, sexual predators and the fact that free speech isn’t under attack, profiting off of hate speech is. If my comment came of as a man shouting down a women, I am truly sorry because that was not my intention. I’ve failed if that is what it came across as, I wanted to provide another example of why JRE sucks, a lot. A lot. The TERF talking points that were double down on make it really hard to want to put forth the effort on the subject.

I’ve had as many dumb opinions as anyone but I can proudly say I always knew Bill Maher and Richard Dawkins were frauds. I was a little slow on Sam Harris but I got there early with him too and had a a lot of arguments on ap about those guys haha

I used to believe conservatives had values and it wasn't all just a grift to pull the wool over the eyes of sheep.

I watched bill maher’s show every week for probably three years. Never got into richard Dawkins or Sam harris thankfully. I can say that I probably would’ve been sucked into that whole if I found them in my early or mid-twenties cause I was an impressionable shitbag.

Yep. 18-19-20 year old me really refused to understand why saying "that's gay" was a bad thing. I wasn't even saying it much myself anymore but I got into arguments with others online about how they should just let people be because it's not a big deal....lol

I went from a blanket “Democrat” because it’s what my parents were, to a Marxist socialist whatever in college, and now I’m just a boring progressive democrat

I watched his show a lot not for him but for his panels. But the last few years his panels have been filled with and talked too much about free speech BS. It's all "intellectual dark web" stuff so I stopped watching as often because it's hardly any good discussion anymore because he brings it all back to that. And it's all about being a contrarian to the "SJWs" and because his ego is still bruised that he got cancelled for calling terrorists brave in like 2006.

Same, I'm very ashamed about that aspect of my past. I think at one point on AP I was like "come on guys, everyone has friends who say that, it's no big deal" and was very quickly shut down with "uhh I'm not friends with anyone who uses that language". It never occurred to me that I grew up in a very sheltered household and, frankly, had pretty shitty friends most of my life that I've since cut ties with.

Definitely grateful for the people on AP who refused to let me get away with my bullshit, combined with getting out of my hometown and meeting new people in college. It was well-deserved, and I know I still have more growing to do in other areas

Yeah luckily I didn't really start posting on AP until 2010ish, which was around when I was starting to realize the problems with "that's gay" and other such shit.
