How did I miss this ableist bullshit yesterday, as a chronically ill/disabled person, this is incredibly messed up — the NYT sucks so bad

lol I literally just took the same screenshot and sent it to my wife who is currently doing surgeries on people’s mouths. The practice she works for decided there was no need to close when this all started because “we want to make sure our employees are getting paid” even though every other dental assistant she knows who works for other dentists closer and they made almost exactly the same amount as they were making through unemployment and they got to be safe.

The only silver lining I’ve been able to find during the pandemic is how much it has opened her eyes as to how corrupt the entire system is. I got to recently welcome her to the resistance.

That's crazy that it never closed. My dentist is opening next week after closing for three months and I'm only going because it's urgent.

Feels like a lot of states are hitting all time highs (think I saw reports for Alabama, NC, SC and Arizona too). Also there isn't any room anymore for NY's improvements to mask the rising number in other states, so we're gonna start seeing rates go up nationally very soon.

Looking at a few sample points:

April 10th: US 7 day average was 32425 new cases. NY's was 10059 or 31%
April 26th: US 7 day average was 31098. NY's was 6682 or 21%
May 25th: US 7 day average was 22644. NY's was 1936 or 8.5%
Yesterday: US 7 day average was 21341. NY's was 969 or 4.5%

basically all the improvements in the US have been NY and other early hit states getting better. But now even if NY continues to improve, they can't reduce the 7 day average that much anymore

 

My pregnant wife had a doctors visit the other day. I’m not allowed to go with her into the doctors office so I usually wait in the car in the parking garage. This time, I decided to walk around outside to get some air. As i waited for the elevator, mask on, three yuppy white people walk behind me and wait. I get in the elevator and turn to see them ploughing in with me...not wearing masks.

These motherfuckers are in the parking garage of a hospital, filled with pregnant women and the doctors who treat them, and were walking around mask less. And they wanted to enter a 6x6 feet elevator with a stranger without wearing a mask.

I objected, loudly, and they said “oh we have masks, want us to put them on?” At that point, I pretty much lost my mind. Stormed out of the elevator and just unloaded curse words on them until the doors closed.

edit: I should add that there are signs everywhere, including to the door of the elevator lobby they entered, saying that masks must be worn at all times.

 

Trump is going to have the final say in a 2nd stimulus and he's absolutely putting this off in an effort to get reelected...and it will probably work. Decision in late July...stimulus checks would distribute in Aug, Sept, Oct...perfect timing...

 

It’s an oral surgeon so they were literally having to coach patients on what to say to get around the guidelines set. Because they could only take patients who were in pain

edit: the worst part is that the office played it up like they were staying open to help the assistants as if they were too dumb to know they would get unemployment benefits if they shut down. It really made me upset because I’ve alway like the guy she works for and he treated all of them so good after our town (his building and like 95% of the buildings were destroyed) after we were hit by hurricane Michael. He literally paid them for 3 months while his office was being rebuilt. I even would go as far as to recommend then to any person I ever got the chance because of how well he had treated his employees. It made me furious and hurt my heart all at once.

 

okay I can’t tell if he’s insinuating the end result being that everyone was free and THAT was questionable....or if he’s saying it wasn’t as great a thing to do because the end result was Lincoln got shot lol

 

Okay guys.

A fast food place shutdown today due to covid. I ate their last Thursday. I’ve felt fine, no symptoms.... Should I go get a test still?
