The city around here is taking down their statues of Columbus and Caesar Rodney.

Columbus is an easy call...Caesar Rodney not so much. Founding Father, state hero, famous for riding from Dover to Philadelphia in a thunderstorm to break Delaware's tie on the vote for Independence. Owned a lot of slaves and then freed them IIRC. Gonna be a pretty big debate in this state. There's a district and a high school named for him, some dorms and halls at University of Delaware are named for him, etc.

 

So just literally 2 days after this:
Pinellas protesters are being held overnight in jail without bail

“As a second-degree misdemeanor, court guidelines recommend people who face unlawful assembly charges should be released, rather than get booked into the jail. Yet, Melgarejo and other protesters were held overnight at the Pinellas County Jail without the option to post bail until they appeared before a judge the next day. At protesters’ first court appearances, judges imposed $1,000 bail, four times the recommended high bail amount for a charge of that level.”

(which I hope makes others as angry as it made me)
Apparently the pinellas county sheriffs office has now ordered non-arrest for “most misdemeanors” Because of a covid outbreak at the jail.

Verdict is still out on if this is applied to protestors or if they are still finding loopholes for them.
