I believe Taiwan’s independence is still distant due to China threatening them with military force if they pull any legitimate moves towards independence but this most likely will help the DDP (democratic progressive party) get re-elected early next year. More people are starting to drift away from KMT due to its pro-China stance.

Hong Kong has shown recently that they won’t put up with a pro-China leader and if Taiwan continues to get support then perhaps they’ll make sure another KMT nationalist is never elected again.
