It’s basically a tax that gets paid by the company importing the goods. If you import a 10.000 ford from Mexico you have to pay 500 in tarifs to the state. These are obviously costs that will be passed on to consumers.

 

Yeah many taxes aren't passed on dollar for dollar to the consumer but tariffs, which are basically sales taxes, come pretty close.

 

Guess where we get a lot of our produce from. Including those god damn avocados!

 

I’d argue that the price increase that will eventually be passed on to the consumers will be more than 5% just because of the way margins work.
