I love anecdotes like these because they completely undermine all of the moronic thinkpieces after 2016 of coastal journalists going to the Midwest to try to better understand the heartland or whatever

 

We want to believe humans are completely rational beings. They'll make nice rational choices. It's cozy. But the truth is just that we're all fucking bonkers and we'll make irrational and stupid decisions for dumb or even no reason at all.

 

GOP will absolutely try and find a way to ensure the white color criminals will get their votes back but the poor black folk they lock up continue to be disenfranchised. Always was and always has been a way for them to win elections and never about protecting people's right to vote.
