I have too. But I suppose I see a difference between the shade and pettiness from people on both camps and something like this, which is letting something pretty insidious linger when it is undeniably and uniquely in her power to refute or confirm.

    This strikes me as different.

Personally, I would want to hear that if true.

Bernie gave a pretty detailed version of the conversation, from his point of view, in his denial. He said that he told her that Trump is a sexist and a misogynist and would weaponize anything he could. I'd like to know if that really was the tenor of the conversation and, if so, what particularly about it left her with the impression that he was saying a woman couldn't win (if that is the impression that she had).

That's information that, as a voter, I would want.

  3. Which leads me to believe there's probably not a good answer she can give, unless it's 100% unequivocally not true. And, do I think she would say nothing if that's the case? I think so. Maybe I'm wrong, but it doesn't really fit with what we've seen. Lead me to think there's some half truth to the statement but with way more nuance than the headline. I dunno. I do know that the pettiness from the volunteers and such makes these things far more vicious online and I bet most people offline don't even think about it while it instead hurts efforts to spread the word of these candidates who are now in-fighting over leaked talking points and whatever instead of focusing on Biden. (And none of this is even close to what I remember seeing in 2004 in the Obama/Hillary battle.)

    Per Bernie's comment

My guess of what most likely happened is that Bernie accurately pointed out that, as we saw in 2016, Trump will use a female candidates gender against them and as a result it will be harder for a woman to win.

Some how in the game of telephone, either with how he communicated that to Warren or how Warren communicated that to the people she talked with or how they communicated that to CNN it got twisted into "Sanders doesn't think a woman can win"

But in that scenario, Warren should obviously just clarify what happened and reiterate her trust that Sanders both believes a woman can be president and that he'll give any eventual nominee his full support if he doesn't win. Its not like she hasn't already implied that her being a woman means the deck is stacked against her.

Silence comes across as implicit confirmation. Which I don't think helps anyone but Trump at this point. Like, even if somehow Sanders did actually go "A woman can't win the election" (which seems very very unlikely knowing Sanders character)... at this point its too late to do anything. Sanders supporters aren't gonna believe you. All saying that it actually happened accomplished will achieve is a Sanders nominee that enough center-left people refuse to vote for that Trump wins or a non-Sanders nominee that enough Sanders supporters refuse to vote for that Trump wins.

  6. Heh. I think the viciousness online really had broken people. Too many think they're as funny and clever as Chapo and are really just mean and they drown out the serious, engaged, very passionate people.

Correct, which is what they should have done and are instead playing right into the media’s / right wing’s hands by not commenting. As I initially said before you led me down this rabbit hole of assuming Warren did it maliciously and extrapolating from there, even if it’s a fuck-up, it’s still a fuck up.

If Bernie said “as we know, this country is very sexist and as a result as a woman you will be facing a difficult battle here, especially from Trump,” then that’s not just less explosive, it’s in a whole different world from the way the CNN story is trying to frame it. If that was what Bernie said then...it’s just a correct thing to say? And I’d imagine Bernie would have no issue with confirming it while simultaneously criticizing the disingenuous way CNN framed it?

  12. Which is why my assumption is that it's not that .. but probably somewhere between that and "a woman can't win."

Looks like Jason already said this but i could 100% see Bernie and Warren having a Frank discussion about sexism and it’s impact on the election, and how the implicit sexism in a lot of people may make it harder for a woman to win an election....and now people who heard about it second hand are turning into something way more dastardly than it was.

  15. The only solution here is for them to join forces and destroy Biden before he comes out through all of this with a bump in the polls :crylaugh:

This is 100% a game of telephone situation. It got told in the wrong way to the wrong people. The meeting happened over a year ago. Surely over all that time what actually was said was twisted, forgotten, resurfaced, and twisted a little more

  23. Scaring People into Supporting Backdoors - Schneier on Security
Let me be clear. None of us who favor strong encryption is saying that child exploitation isn’t a serious crime, or a worldwide problem. We’re not saying that about kidnapping, international drug cartels, money laundering, or terrorism. We are saying three things. One, that strong encryption is necessary for personal and national security. Two, that weakening encryption does more harm than good. And three, law enforcement has other avenues for criminal investigation than eavesdropping on communications and stored devices. This is one example, where people unraveled a dark-web website and arrested hundreds by analyzing Bitcoin transactions. This is another, where police arrested members of a WhatsApp group.

The governments push to weaken encryption is bad, very, very bad.
