Maybe I'm oversimplifying the solution, but wouldn't it be easy for the DNC to just swap Nevada and Iowa to address the representation of the country at large issue? They're both caucuses, both have roughly the same population, but Nevada looks a lot more like America than Iowa does. Still a little low african american population wise compared to the rest of the country but twice as much as Iowa and much closer to the hispanic and asian american population demos.

I think they should just make Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, and South Carolina all on the same day. You cover all different regions of the country as well as different levels of diversity. no reason to have just one state go first

One good thing about Bloomberg at least, it's nice he's apparently pledged to spend heavily if he loses the nomination (which he will) against Trump through November. Whether he will or not is in question, but if so that should really help Bernie

Why not just make it so that every primary in an election year must be on the same day? The current system makes later state primaries virtually worthless. Same with the electoral college, it actively lessens the value of countless people’s votes

Wonder if Gavin Newsom would run for president one day - everything I'm seeing from him suggests he could be a smart progressive who has the demeanor needed to run for president

that means Biden wins. the current system actually allows for momentum.

I think the idea behind it is it gives both the parties and the voters more time to vet the candidates and get to know them/their policies.

Unfortunately it has created a "race to the top" situation where a lot of states are trying to make their primaries earlier and earlier for the exact reason you pointed out.

I do think in a competitive race like the one we may potentially have this year that the later states votes end up being just as important. But the problem is the momentum created by winning early states can create a self fulfilling prophecy of sorts.

lol i did a major eye roll when I saw that part of the interview. Trump literally holds rallies just to talk about how awesome he is and give the same speech about 149024 different issues where he literally is just riffing on, again, how bad the Democrats are and how great he is on those isses. Bernie's been pretty clear that he'll be going to actually tell people about the policy/why they should support it. At least that's the impression I get from him.

yeah but I’m just thinking in terms of voter disenfranchisement. I don’t like that the only apparent way for a more radical candidate to win is by making certain votes less important solely because of where they live

I think it’s less complicated than that and is rather just something that has always been considered an issue that the state parties control: they obviously have to deal with their primaries in years without presidential elections, so presidential primaries are more the exception than the rule.

But my counter to that would be that they’re such a significant asterisk that they actually do deserve to be the rule. It also isn’t some big burden for the national party to simply set the date, it’s not like they would be setting it at a time when the later states are thrown off and don’t have time to properly prepare, and it wouldn’t affect state voter registration laws

I feel like having it all on one day could be a little chaotic because then you're organizing two massive one-day elections in the same year....but maybe do something like, 5 primary days, 10 states per day, with the 10 states going on each day being randomly selected and then set, to be reviewed every 10 years by the parties.

But i truly dk how the dynamics of that would work between the national and state parties

Trump doesn't understand that "Mini Mike Bloomberg" refers to a person who is like Michael Bloomberg, just smaller, but not to Michael Bloomberg, who, as I understand, is rather small to begin with.

I really can't believe that this story based on basically nothing has become this big of a deal. Will any media outlet report that these weren't the campaign's actual talking points?
