I think it takes a lot of ignoring history to think Bernie would be shielded from criticism for settling for something less than promised, especially when there are hoards of people insisting daily that anything less than being promised is tantamount to killing people. To the point where anyone even hinting at something that isn't complete M4A is being attacked as being neolib/too far to the right/etc. You can't create that kind of rhetorical environment and then think the politician and the party would be shielded from electoral punishment if they fail to accomplish the non-killing people plan.

Only chip I have is with the way the left tends to eat itself and attack anyone who points out that maybe sometimes they're wrong/have a bad strategy/etc.

As someone who lived in a paycheck to paycheck home from the time I was a teenager until I was 24ish or so, I would say it's definitely not the same toll psychologically. I remember the feelings when a car broke down and we needed to pay a thousand+ to get it fixed, vs. when my mom's car got repoed and she got a court order to garnish her wages to pay off that loan/interest. Huge disparity there, just like there is between an OOP of $5K and 120K in debt. And, as I said in another post, an OOP maximum doesn't mean you're definitely going to have to pay that much in a year. It just means it's the most you'd have to pay period. A system that has an OOP maximum but no deductibles would be extremely helpful to people.

Still can't stop laughing at "stop antisemitism" and "screw that Jewish guy" being in the same byline of their account

If they don’t pay attention to politics/the race in general then I have an *incredibly* difficult time believing they are the same people who talk about or believe M4A being life/death.

And again, you’re simply jumping to this assumption that they will turn against Bernie. Why do you think that outcome is more likely than any number of outcomes, eg his supporters putting the blame on the countless figures trying to prevent M4A from ever happening?

Again, I think it will depend much less on the actual outcomes and way more on whether the supporters believe he stuck with his principles and truly fought for M4A. You can see it with Obama and the ACA, where people who believe he fought for the public option are far more sympathetic towards him than people who believe he never put up much of a fight in the first place. You also see it with Trump, who has failed to deliver on basically all of his big campaign points, but what matters is that they believe he hasn’t sold out.

And the Venn diagram of people who are super loyal to Bernie and people who think he’s continuously undermined by everyone else in politics, including those ostensibly on his side, is basically a circle. So even if those people don’t follow politics closely, it’s a far more simpler narrative jump from that to “it’s the fault of people who oppose Bernie” than it is to “Turns our Bernie sucks and nothing we try matters so there’s probably no point in engaging in politics again”

You don't need all of them to turn on him---just enough that decide not to turn up in the midterms/in the next election. Those who don't pay attention to politics and only see that rhetoric in passing when browsing social media aren't gonna be the types to look deeper into it. They'll just be let down by yet another politician.

I will say it's pretty wild that everyone things Bernie will be insulated from something no other President has been.

This is not at all what you’ve been talking about. Losing the midterms is not a sign of a “devastating backlash” from his most loyal supporters lol

Uhh...yeah it is! Especially since his stated goal is to establish a sustained revolution that gets us to the point where we can pass M4A. If a lot of voters are turned off by him settling for less, it kills any chance of that happening. And it's more likely that a lot of voters will be turned off by that if it becomes "common knowledge" that anything less than M4A is just "killing people". "Oh Bernie passed a law that still lets people die? Wasn't he supposed to be different?" etc blah blah.

I can't believe ya'll think these are some hot takes and not something based on like, every other president's problems with voters in past elections lol
