I read the replies of people like “I cannot believe it’s come to this” and I’m like “isn’t this just same the kind of bullshit the British press has been trying to stick Corbyn with for years now?” lol

 

lol Yeah it's a ridiculous thought process...people have a good idea and they cash in on it, regardless of the tax rates.

But in this case the guy was being sarcastic because those were the actual tax rates at the time Gates got things going so he's using it to point out how stupid that argument is

Ah, that does make sense. I did think those tax rates were oddly specific (and pre-Reagan, seemingly accurate). I've just heard that argument sooo many times from people who weren't being sarcastic so I just automatically assumed the tweet to be a serious

 

Whatever antisemitism there is in the Labour Party, it's not "institutional" and caving in that point was one of the biggest mistakes Corbyn has made. In terms of problems with racism in major UK parties, it probably doesn't crack the top 10. Gotta find that Seymour article from last year later, hope its not paywalled now

Indiana doesn’t have a senate race until 2022 I think. Idk if anyone better has announced they are running for governor, but he’d be better off doing that instead

 

I took a cab tour in Belfast and I got a very protestant former UVF guy as a guide and I just didn't bother trying to argue with him when he took me to the murals that say CORBYN = IRA = ISIS and had a nice chat with his friends who upkept them. He did eventually tell me about how excited he is for his annual solo trip to Thailand, so I'm sure other than being a right wing protestant terrorist sympathizer he's a very normal and legal guy

 

it came up because he visited jerusalem recently, and i made the mistake of mentioning that i debated doing that when i was younger with birthright and decided against it and he asked why. after i explained, he went into “wow i really don’t get how you can claim to be jewish but not like israel, you have to love israel” and i laughed and said that is easy to say for someone who is catholic (wasn’t generalizing, it was evident from his cab) and not jewish and we sat in silence after that lol
