I've heard so many horror stories, so I brush and floss every day, no questions, and mouth wash occasionally (although my aunt, who's worked in a dentist office for like 30 years, says it's not that effective)

Just go to a few consultations and ask a bunch of questions before you decide, it's really the best you can do. Also, it's probably preferable if your dentist doesn't look like bill Goldberg.

I've been putting off getting my wisdom teeth out for like 2 years because anxiety and also I don't have dental, it's insane that dental and medical are separate

Anyone who's m4a plan doesn't include dental has clearly never had to go through this shit and it shows.

Are they causing you pain or anything? Because if not, it’s pretty much bullshit that you’re “supposed” to get them removed

I wouldn't say it's bullshit but if they're not going to cause some damage in the way they're growing or are infected, it's not necessary to get them out ASAP

I'd say you should get that taken care of as quickly as possible, only because that story about that person who had a cavity and it got infected and died that went viral. Scared the fuck out of me.

Gah this is giving me so much anxiety. Somebody tag me when we’re back to either politics or food or entertainment arguments.

The typical view that you just need to get them removed because - yeah that part is pretty much bullshit. I know a lot of people whose parents made them get them removed before college because they thought it was just something you had to do, as if it’s guaranteed that they’re going to be an issue later on, which just isn’t the case

I have to get mine removed because they're crowding my other teeth and I occasionally get pericoronitis behind them.

My dentist said they should be relatively easy to extract because they're fully grown in so it should work like a normal tooth extraction would, and not like the horror stories I've heard from friends that got them taken out earlier in their lives.

Not only that but Dental has such a low max amount they'll pay out. I got a night guard and it was like 1/3 of my entire year's worth of coverage and I still had to shell out a decent chunk of change from my own pocket

Oh yea, like I said you don't have to do it just to do it but in a way it's kind of an attack on the poor if you think about it. The industry knows they probably can't afford it after 26, if something does happen to them so they can fearmonger to try to get them to pull them out so they don't have to think about that kind of thing later on. Never even thought about it that way but if you're privileged and come from a well to do family, you never have that worry because you can get them removed whenever you want.

Yeah when I was in highschool I had all 4 taken out, but luckily the top two were grown in totally fine and they really didn't bother me at all. The bottom ones were pretty rough, but nothing unbearable. Honestly, the worst part is having to eat soft foods only.

Getting mine out was pretty legit. I was awake just on laughing gas the entire time. I was so loopy I would have yanked them out myself. Just giggled the entire time.

I have two baby teeth still because I don't have any adult teeth under them to grow in (yay genetics). Can't wait for the day I have to pay to get fucking implants put in.

I need to get my wisdom teeth out soon and what pisses me off is that my dentist has been saying for years to just keep watching them as they came in and they look fine, and then suddenly last time I was there said “you should probably just get them out”. So he referred me to an oral surgeon and the oral surgeon was like “they definitely need to come out. You really should have gotten these out when you were like 16, that would have been the best time. We should get them out as soon as we can”

But then part of me thinks the oral surgeon was gonna say that no matter what cause you know, money.

    The Truth About Dentistry

This scared the living crap out of me about dentistry, the fact that some doctor was performing all of these unneeded dental surgeries and procedures is terrifying.
