a couple of years ago a new song by the national came out and youtube was auto set to 2x speed for some reason and I was like "wow this sounds very different I'm really not sure I like this change" and then I realized like half way through the video was sped up:cringe:

i put sunbather on my turntable when i got the vinyl and thought my record player was broken. turns out its a 45 rpm record. and one time i put on a different record after listening to it that was 33 and a half without changing it. playing with speed is fun

yes rearranging the order of a film or show would be fucking stupid i dont think its the same thing as watching it faster. i dont think watching it faster is a cool thing that i would totally do but i dont care if the option exists. just like i dont care apple music allows you to make playlists where you can reorder albums

actually Jason is just watching the Baby of the Year sketch at 6x speed

  11. No, I was pretty clear and specific.

I can tell you don't. I do. Calibrating a sound to a room versus changing the entire song's pitch and tempo are very different.

And if someone watched a movie on mute and then tells me they didn't like it or didn't understand it I'd respond they haven't seen it. And no one is saying don't allow mute buttons on TV.

Nah, I'm gonna judge Netflix for fucking with the art 'cause I know what it's like to want to create something and want it presented a specific way. Go fast forward your movie if you want, I don't care, but Netflix shouldn't be fucking with the timing of a movie to crank their engagement numbers for stock holders.

  13. Weird how speed can fundamentally change the album :crylaugh:

  14. the comparison is more like, what if apple music was actively encouraging you to skip silence, fade outs, interludes, and speed up slow parts, so they could make more money, while also trending towards being the only viable platform for even the biggest and best musicians to publish their work

why does it matter to Netflix how much content I consume? Shouldn't they want me to watch less and keep playing to stress their servers less? Kinda like gym memberships, where they actively bank on people not going.

  18. Certain members of the 1975 thread just threw more money at Apple don't encourage them

Why are we still talking about playback speeds. I’m not reading the last 5 pages of that so sorry if this was already posted

but those tools already exist on apple music and not in a way that actively encourages you to use them for those purposes. we havent even seen how this would be implemented within the platform, if it would be intrusive and actively encourage you to use it (i guess the skip intro button does already), so until then i dont really care about the concept

  23. They report things like MAUs, how many hours of content watched, new subscribers, etc., to the street -- all to convince investors they're not failing to the competition. I'd also be willing to bet they have an internal metric that correlates "the more you watch on Netflix the less likely you are to cancel Netflix" strongly. Their incentive is to bring new people in and keep you watching and happy that you spent the money on them and not HULU.

  24. Maybe for stuff they've licensed, but they want you to watch as many of their originals as possible
