Pelosi privately urges narrow Trump impeachment probe focued on Ukraine

 

So stupid. There's so much dirt to dig up, and outlined in the Mueller probe.

 

Man, it's amazing/depressing how much vitriol AOC gets on her Twitter

 

Not sure I understand this strategy. I would want hearings, lots of them, dominating the airwaves.

But where in the transcript was there explicit quid pro quo listed? I thought that's why we're waiting on the whistleblower report?

 

"I would like you to do us a favor though..."

 

And the whole "we do a lot for Ukraine...and never get any reciprocity there" part. It's an obvious "Hey we give you a lot of stuff and you never give us anything in return. Oh you want to buy some more weapons from us? Well, I'm gonna need a favor first"

 

Dang, I didn't realize those two things were in there. Insane that members of Congress are so wishy washy on this, it seems pretty damn clear from those quotes

 

Z: "We want to by some missiles from you"

T: "I would like you to do us a favor though"

Imagine a scenario in which your request for assistance from someone was immediately met with them asking you for a favor and not considering that a quid pro quo. Some Simone Biles level mental gymnastics being done by GOP folks today.

To be a bit more explicit, the R's argument is that the "favor" that Trump asks for is help with the "server," which related to the hacking of the DNC and not Biden.

This was an obviously batshit insane conspiracy thing to ask for and so the Ukranian president is like "Oh yeah, sure, um, totally. You've got friends here and also, just so you know, some of my people talked to Rudy."

Then Trump praised Rudy and pivots to "the other thing," which is to ask for the investigation of Biden.

So, there argument is that, because there is an initial request before the Biden stuff, the "favor" language doesn't indicate a QPQ on the Biden stuff.

Which is silly, because you can obviously ask for multiple favors...not all of which are necessarily nefarious.

But I think being a little "loose" with the initial reporting has given some bad faith wiggle room to the R's here. What's important is that Trump laid the groundwork to squeeze the Ukranian president (we are sooooo good to you and you don't reciprocate) and then, when he saw the opportunity, jumped in with the Biden ask. And it is important to note as well that Trump is the one who brings up Biden. The Ukranian president mentions Rudy, but Trump brings in the Bidens.

 

Cowards.

 

Also, he is basically nullifying the R's talking points right here.

The "favor" he asked for explicitly was help getting this mythical missing server that he believes is in Ukraine. Why does he want the server? To help hurt a political foe lol.

So now both things he asked for are expressly tied to helping him while harming his political enemies. nice.

 

Oh man, this could totally end the Hillary Clinton presidency!
