As someone who’s never liked baseball, i don’t think any of these would really help to draw me in except maybe no.6, but at least for me the issue with baseball is the gameplay itself, not these things. The more I learn about it too the less I like it lol

Exactly. The young and people not already interested in baseball don't give a shit about things like the pitcher hitting instead of a DH. Removing it wouldn't do anything.

I used to be a 4 sport watcher, then when Iverson era started dying in Philly I stopped watching basketball a lot, and politics has kind of eaten into my sports paying attention time ever since 2008. Baseball and hockey have suffered the most due to that in terms of time watching, but I used to be as obsessed with football as I am with like health care policy now and that has definitely gone to the wayside. Baseball is definitely not the most exciting sport to watch but I still enjoy it, at least sometimes. The Phillies have absolutely NOT been enjoyable to watch this year though, so I missed the Harper slam last night. They've been a horrid team to watch all season though, at least since Cutch went down.

  11. Yikes, look at all the bad baseball takes. I'm going back to the sanctuary of the MLB thread.

I also think viewership would go up if teams teams stopped tanking, and actually attempted to put a team on the field that's mildly fun to watch. Or, if you're going to tank, like a certain team in southeast Michigan that purports to be in the MLB, have the decency to not call me and try to sell me season ticket packages when your players are colliding in the outfield multiple times a game

It’s hard for me to get invested in sports when there are so many games per season. The emotional impact of one loss or one win in the NFL is so massive because it can be the difference between the playoffs or not. The other sports, it feels like you’d have to win or lose 5-10 games before it becomes something bigger.

I don’t know if that makes sense to anyone else though.

For me it’s the importance of each score. Every score in baseball, football, and hockey is important because it could be the winning score. Not as big into basketball because who gives a shit about a basket in the 5th minute of the first quarter. Obviously it’ll be important come down to the last 5 minutes because without that basket the game isn’t close enough to try and win in the 4th but that’s not enough for me to care haha.

Then again Soccer is like that too with each goal being Uber important and yet I find it dreadfully boring to watch outside of the few times a game when the ball is near the net so lol.

Stanley Cup playoffs is still the most exciting event in sports even though I’m more of a casual hockey fan compared to NFL football

  18. I love it for exactly this reason. Instead of fretting, you can just enjoy the games. It's been extremely helpful for my mental health to have something I can just enjoy, with very little pressure, almost every single day.

I guess I’d compare my thoughts on winning a handful of games early in a season to your example of scoring some points in the first quarter of a basketball game. It’s really hard for me to care about them until the 4th quarter of the game/season, you know?

I get that point of view though.
I can totally see how it can be enjoyed in a passive sort of way. But as anyone in the NFL thread can attest to, I get obsessed with football and being able to concentrate one game per week for my team can be an absolute high or absolute low. I can fully enjoy just chillin and watching other teams play though.

Assuming that you're still talking about MLB, it also probably helps to be a Yankees fan this year.

  22. True! But I've been following like 4-5 teams the past couple years since I got back into the game.

Peppermint oil. Boil some water in a pot, put a few (or a bunch) of drops of peppermint oil in, then breathe in the steam. It really helps with breathing. Sometimes it helps to drape a towel over your head while you sit and lean over the water and kinda catch the steam. I have used this on myself many times, and it even helped someone else with asthma one time who had forgotten their inhaler.

Also, my mom would say Vick's VapoRub.
