I feel very fortunate to not be battling anxiety, however, the mental health thread on this site is incredibly supportive. There may be some answers from people in there who can be very helpful but might not venture into here.

 

I live out in the cornfields SW of Chicago. I work at a decent sized religious medical group. In the last year, I've had to do 3 online "workplace violence" trainings. And within in the last 2 months, I did an in-person workplace violence class that was basically self defense. The "sisters" who run my facility think that me swatting away a gun is my best, religiously approved, form of defense.

As an EMT, it breaks my heart that the educators of today need to know this. IL passed a law that requires the students to be in session when the teachers train for an active shooter. As the EMS/Fire training coordinator, we will also be a part of that training. These kids are littles I've known since they were born. I don't want to ever picture them terrorized by this.

Just to reiterate what was said above: I do the same fucking thing. When I’m out in public I constantly am thinking “what if someone comes in here with a gun.”

I’ll be at any clothing store and think: “can I hide under this rack?”

I’ll be waiting for a train at North Station not wearing headphones anymore because I need to always be listening.

I’ll be at a family public skate and think: “wow I really fucking hope no one comes in with a gun because my girlfriend can’t skate and I don’t know how I’ll get both of us off this ice easily.”

I’ll be waiting in line to go into a haunted house attraction and think: “well, we are just standing here in line. Someone can drive right by. Please hurry up line and when in the attraction how will I know if it is real if someone came in?”

I’ll be at a bar and think instantly “is this table being close to an exit a good or bad thing? Like what if they come in this door?”

I’ll be at the beach and think: “fuck is running in the water my best bet?”

It goes on and on and the most fucked up part of it all: these thoughts come way too quickly.

I'm not sure this data actually means much of anything, much less what the article is trying to suggest it does. But it is still interesting and a little odd that more people have given to Kamala + Warren than Bernie + Warren.

Also wanted to see what percentage of donors for each candidate also gave to someone else

Bernie is ~ 25%, Biden a bit higher at ~28% Warren and Pete are both ~ %36, Harris is ~ %49

Most of the lesser candidates are in the 50-60% range, with Castro being the highest at ~61% but Willamson and Yang are unsurprisingly in the low 20s and some others like Delaney being pretty low and De Blasio being the lowest at ~15% (though I'm comparing the NYT total donal estimates to the Buzzfeed exact counts, so once you get down to Delaney and De Blasio numbers that starts to become a big factor that could easily be throwing stuff off)

 

We are fucked.
