Now it’s only fair that if they remove Trump they can remove Bill Cosby and other disgusting humans as well right? A coooke of years ago they said that once a star is placed it is a part of history and can’t be removed. Now that the ball is rolling let’s start getting rid of others too.

Not that I really care about any of this I mean who cares about a stupid star? Lol

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but...
I live in a very red state and I really don’t see us having the first Muslim governor in this Trump era. There is a resistance, sure. But not really here. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie are backing Sayed, but that is more reason for Republicans to vote against him and more reason for me to vote for him. I want more progressive candidates to run, especially against Trump, but i don’t think one will win here. I’m still voting for him in the primary today, but I’m not optimistic.

I read this thread almost every day and never post, but I felt like offering some reassurance here- it doesn't look great. You're right. But I don't consider Michigan to be a red state. I volunteered at the El-Sayed/Sanders rally on Sunday, and Abdul made a really good point when he called Michigan a "purple" state. Michigan was firmly blue until 2016, and I think the swing to red was because of apathy among young people as much as anything. Bernie Sanders won the state and they were disappointed that we didn't get to vote for him as president. I think, considering this, and considering that those same youth are finally invested in something at the state level, he has a chance. I'm trying to stay realistic, but I'm allowing for some optimism, because as young voters, we are not captured accurately by polling numbers. The amount of young people I saw at the rally was so heartening. I am really hoping that they will put their money where their mouth is and show up to make this happen today.

back 2 lurking thanks all for keeping me up to date on politics. If you also live in Michigan, please get out and vote.

Awesome. It’s glad to hear this from someone who was at a rally.

it was wild! there were also a lot of old people, which I honestly wasn't expecting! Only downside was that no one knew it was an outdoor event and I was at the GA area greeting/directing people and there was some confusion/disappointment about that.

I forgot where I heard it but they were pointing out that we've finally as a society reached peak capitalism by electing the inexperienced wealthy into positions of political power. Essentially we went from serfdom to nation states to a lobby based democracy to finally corporate governance (which you'll realize is serfdom with extra steps). "Run our country like a business" was an actual selling point and people still believe it. It'll be CEOs not necessarily celebrities we start voting in. Guarantee that by 2028 one of Zuckerberg or bezos will be on the Democratic ticket. Can musk run?

Examples where this has already happened is space travel. Once our competitive drive was over, NASA lost it's funding. Now the private sector has taken over because there's money to be had. People ignorantly believe that companies want to push the frontiers of science and space. Not true. They want our tax dollars because when the government needs a satellite put into space guess who they're going to call.
