I just had an extremely frustrating conversation with my hyper conservative parents who only watch fox news and they straight up agreed that wages are too low and if you work a full time job you should be able to afford a life but they're still adamantly right wing and I don't know how to convince them otherwise

Seriously folks, I’m moving to a new place in 2 weeks and I’m trying not to freak out. I fucking hate moving. I’ve been in this place for ten years! George W was still president when I got here. I’m happy I’m moving but the stress of actually transporting all my stuff has been racking my brain. I know I’m gonna have a Ross “pivot, pivot, pivot, pivot, PIVOT!!!” moment when getting furniture downstairs.

 

Moving sucks

 

im moving at the end of the month and wanna die just thinking about packing. i hope the next apartment i find is worth renewing my lease for next year so i dont have to move again.

 

my parents vote conservative but have so many liberal beliefs that i dont even think they realize they have. they want universal health care, they're adamantly anti-gun. but my dad makes over 200k a year so he always votes for whoevers gonna lower his taxes regardless, and my mom believes all the anti-democrat propoganda dumb ass middle aged people post on facebook. but at least i can have intelligent conversations about some stuff with them. theyre kind of iffy on social issues though. they hold views that are racist in subtle ways so it can be frustrating broaching that subject. like when i still lived with them in st louis and all the ferguson stuff went down it was brutal because they definitely thought the cop did nothing wrong and got mad anytime there were protestors in an area that would inconvenience them. that was a brutal, brutal few months living under their roof in the aftermath. thankfully my older brother is just a little bit lest left wing than i am but still pretty leftist (despite the fact he's a prosecutor, but it was a big pay raise from being a public defender and a way less stressful and overworked position, so i dont blame him in the long run, its just a stepping stone to boost his resume) so we can both convince my parents of shit they're wrong about sometimes. they've come around huge on LGBQT+ issues in the last 5-10 years. im still never gonna be comfortable telling them im bi tho, and i dont really need to since im in a long term relationship, feel like itd just confuse them lol. thing is my girlfriend's bi too but they also dont need to know that.

 

I went through a 9 year stretch where I moved every single year. Its awful. I'm currently on year 2 for the first time in forever and I've already decided I'm moving when the lease is up lol. I just can't be happy anywhere I can afford.

 

my problem right now is i cant afford my current place but i found somewhere that's actually nicer than where im at now and cheaper, just a little smaller. its also on the third floor of a building, right now im just in a whole row house (its tiny thought). so if moving up to the third floor of a building is as brutal as i think its going to be im definitely gonna try renewing that lease so i dont have to worry about moving out for a while lol.

 

but id rather be on the top floor because no one will live above me. my first apartment in philly my upstairs neighbor shook the entire fucking building stomping around non stop. like bro take your shoes off and put down some rugs please. also im pretty sure he ratted me out for smoking pot and i got threatened with eviction, so another top floor perk is the weed smoke wont float up into someone else's apartment

 

I think I'm at the stage where I'm done with apartments, and my wife and I are hoping we can afford to buy for our next move, but if I ever do apartments again no way am I ever doing lower floor if I can avoid it. I swear everyone I've ever lived under had a goddamn bowling alley in their apartment.

 

lol yeah even when i lived in my parents house my room was in the basement underneath their master bedroom/bathroom and id get woken up every single morning when theyd get ready for work. few things make me as angry as the sound of people walking around loudly above me.

 

i want to not live with my parents anymore

 

I’m on the second floor (and moving to a first floor apartment), I can tolerate people upstairs walking around but apparently when I walk it’s an earthquake to my downstairs’ neighbor. She’s complained a bunch of times about my walking and called the cops on me last year because my tv was too loud.

 

A friend of mine was going to move in but she got a dream job last second and is moving to New York for three months, I have a few weeks to figure something out and no clue what I'll do. I might just get stuck paying more until I can find someone.

 

living with my parents was bad until my brother and sister moved out and raquel moved in, then it was more chill. but im glad i moved out lol just get homesick sometimes i mayyyy have moved a little too far

 

It's so nice financially, less so having them constantly talk about how anyone who is critical of Israel is antisemitic
