I don't think I've ever heard of Stephen Miller's voice but I always picture it sounding like the Box Factory Tour Guide from the Simpsons since he looks like him.

The great liberal MSNBC just had someone on who was basically a British version of Ann coulter and agreed that everyone should just calm down and do absolutely nothing while praising the federalist society. So resistance bro lol

Because don't like immediate change. It's gotta be a gradual phase-out or people will go nuts.

 

Another reason: supply-chains are difficult to change dramatically overnight and long-term contracts with suppliers would likely have penalties to cancel. It's a good move, but it does seem more like a PR/signaling move more than anything else. Is there also a move to get rid of plastic cups? Is there something unique about plastic straws in terms of recycling that is different from the cups?

I imagine producing millions of new lids or paper straws etc takes time, plus figuring out how to phase them out without making things too expensive

 

How do y'all keep up with all this awful news, or enough to not feel like an ignorant dullard with their fingers in their ears, without feeling supremely depressed and nihilistic?

 

Lots of good twitter threads about this. I think there’s a balance of being informed but knowing when to step away from the dreadfulness and allow yourself to breathe, too. From what I can tell, those that organize and join orgs like DSA (just one example) see a lot of value in it because you can actually feel like you’re making an impact in your community

 

Speaking of I would be going to a DSA meeting tonight but I have Glassjaw tickets and that’s gonna be equally cathartic
