    Not one bit...

Another comment I agree with 100%.

"I'm a Democrat, gay man, and atheist, and I support the GOP effort to protect free speech on campus. Excessive political correctness on campuses has had a chilling effect on the free exchange of ideas. The goal of the PC commandants is not simply to prevent "hate speech," but rather to block and stigmatize any speech that may hurt feelings or bruise egos. On many college campuses, there is only one type of acceptable speech on complex social issues, and students and faculty who do not adhere to the party line risk harassment, blackballing, and career suicide.

When controversial speakers visit campuses, students are right to protest. They can protest in the pages of student publications, on social media, and outside the venue hosting the speaker. They have no right, however, to prevent their peers from hearing alternative points of view. Instead of disrupting speakers, the better approach is to ask pointed questions and rely on reason to present a counterpoint.

Fascism was, and still is, dangerous. The excesses of the radical left embodied in socialist authoritarianism, however, are equally soul killing and dangerous. Sensible students, university administrators, and legislators will recognize that free speech is essential to a healthy democratic society."

  3. Uh, ok. I disagree with you completely. Those are ridiculously stupid posts.

I advise you to never take serious anyone who uses the phrase PC or Political Correctness. The phrase is entirely reactionary at this point. Have you ever seen anyone advocating political correctness? Like... any movement say "we want political correctness!" No. But there have been plenty of movements and protest against racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. The phrase is only used when in reaction to those movements. It's brilliant deflection really.

    "This person is racist."

    "You're being politically correct."

    "Sexist."

    "Politically correct!"

    Homophobic.

    "PC!"

It totally ignores the bigoted issue at hand. Then sums issues like racism and sexism as a matter of feelings than something that materially affects people's lives.

    Hahahahahaha.

How are you still in this thread and actually agreeing with this shit.

Fascism is right wing, not left wing. The "illiberal left" is a phrase used by RWers and centrists who who enable them because they don't understand ideology. Freedom of speech includes freedom to disrupt speakers.

    This is Dave Rubin nonsense.

Honestly when shit like this happens, I don't understand why the next person whose turn it is doesn't just say "Okay well since you won't answer him, I'll ask you the same exact question".

Get these fucking questions answered, people.

Friendly reminder that rich celebrities who say nothing while a democrat was punishing families who were trying to escape suffering and death do not deserve kudos for finally saying the right things when its overwhelmingly popular for them.

Ignoring the one sentence of the comment I quoted that mentions "PC commandments," do you disagree with the rest of it? Obviously the commenter isn't homophobic as a self-identified gay man. I am willing to be consider other viewpoints, but your post seems as much a deflection as his.

I think a good litmus test for people's view points on the 1st amendment is what they think about the ACLU defending the Ku Klux Klan's right to peacefully protest. (An article on the matter for reference: Why the ACLU defends white nationalists’ right to protest — including in Charlottesville). What do you think of the ACLU's stance on representing what most people would consider a hate group?

Lol. After this post I think I'm going to go take a walk in nature for a bit... :)

    - The comment I quoted doesn't say fascism is not right wing. Notice the "however" in the following sentence.
    - I think this is the first time I have seen the phrase "illiberal left," so I'm not familiar with its connotations. What do you think of this article? The Left-Wing Threat To Liberalism
    - I disagree with the bold text, though I'm not an expert on the subject. Check out: Does Disruption Violate Free Speech? - Office of Inclusive Excellence
    - I don't know who Dave Rubin is, but I guess I'll use the Google machine to find out!

and my nuanced response to Ro is "no take backsies bro." disappointing.

  20. That an organization legally arguing for a protection of free speech vs. government is not the same as a group of people de-platforming nazis on college campuses.

I don't think the ACLU should defend racists or hate groups. I don't like that about them, racists should get their own racist counsel to defend their speech. The ACLU can only take on so many cases, they shouldn't use their resources defending nazis.

  23. I think there is some value in a lot of people finding out about the government's inhumane treatment of immigrants, and the new enforcement of these horrific policies by the Trump administration, in the past few months. Now, if they're silent and this continues if there were a Democrat in office, I would definitely agree, but I have met a lot of people that just weren't paying attention before and for the first time are. And some of these new revelations about this policy Trump enacted are what spurred them. Basically, I give some people a little bit of a pass as the past two years and brought more people to activism and even just paying attention for the first time in their lives.
