I had to do COBRA for a little while to keep me and my family covered and it was BRUTAL. Significantly more than my mortgage every month. I don't think it was double but it was real close.

I live in the Twin Cities and take the train to work. Transit cops have been stepping up fare checks pretty noticeably for the past week or so. It’s so shitty.

Considering he has not stated any actual policy ideas and his most important talking point has been the national debt (no real portion of America gives a shit about this), I've been wondering the same.

There's not actually a constituency for him, or at least one with any meaningful following. Fiscally conservative, socially moderate is overly represented in the media. Centrism to me sounds more like an absence of ideology. What group of people who identifies as "fiscally conservative" (what does that even mean, outside of the Washington establishment nowadays?) can you see going out and trying to actually defend any sort of meaningful social policy? And what group focused on meaningful social policy thinks trickle down economics is the answer? It's a complete mismatch of policy opinions because fiscal conservatism is a direct assault on social liberties.

Schultz has a book out. This is his book tour. But no one gives enough of a shit about him without some manufactured outrage.

Someone that I’m FB friends with posted a status yesterday that they were interested in hearing what Schultz ideas are and thinks it’s cool he’s considering running as a centrist independent (this dude voted for Bernie in 2016 so not sure why he would want Schultz lol)

Good. On another good note, the train driver did wait for me way longer than he should have this morning as I ran the last block to get on board. Thanks, train driver.

  20. American "centrism" certainly is ideological, it is simply the most brutal form of neoliberalism but abortion and gay marriage are allowed. That is if you can find a publicly funded hospital or courthouse

Fair enough and I agree, though I would argue that if one were to take the logical conclusions of such policies to the very end (as in, follow them through to implementation) that you would meet an end that contradicts itself.

Where do you draw the line between what is an acceptable publicly funded venture and what isn't? How can you accept libraries and hospitals and reject truer fiscally conservative (in other words, policy that will actually be more efficient at saving money, like publicly funded healthcare for instance) without being contradictory? You cannot truly believe that gay people and women seeking abortions deserve protection while pushing for fiscal policies that directly contradict your so called social liberalism (you is just a convenient pronoun in this case, not pointing the finger at anyone in this thread).

I guess to clarify what I mean when I say a lack of ideology, it's a lack of actual, meaningful ideology.

  22. You're right. It's an ideology of 'let me keep my money as the planet dies.' Which is meaningful for the rich people of course but sort of genocidal and nihilistic otherwise
