So far the only two black friends of mine that have posted anything about Harris have posted decidedly negative things, one of which included a #neverkamala tag.

    Take that fwiw.

Harris saying she supports eliminating private insurance is gonna give the GOP fodder to use by comparing it to when Obama said in 2009 “if you like your plan you can keep your plan”, now having dems straight up saying if you like it you can’t keep it. Will be interesting to see how voters react to that imo

  4. it would be very helpful if every m4a dem said that i think. if one of them is up there saying "nah lets just do a public option and leave private insurance alone" the whole tone shifts

It doesn't have to be painted that way, though....a public option alone would do serious damage to what private insurance can charge, and of course they can pair a public option with regulations on private insurance, etc.

Yeah, cause the government is great at regulating the private sector

  9. If Kamala is all in on single payer I don't know which heavy hitters are going to be advocating for this compromise. If it is an acceptable compromise that maybe can be what ends up getting passed after details are hashed and negotiations have taken place, maybe that would be fine, but we already know what happens when we go into it with public option as the end goal and negotiate down from there. There is no reason to start from that compromise position especially when Kamala - who is probably at this point the rightmost democratic candidate with any chance - is going for full single payer

As I mentioned I think last week, no country that I can think of has a solely single payer system. The best systems are those that provide healthcare to everyone, like Medicare for all, where everyone gets the same benefit and coverage from the government, with an option to buy supplemental insurance (usually private). I feel like that is the best way to go. So yes, private insurance as we know it would be gone which I think is what Harris is saying anyway, but entirely getting rid of them? Eh

The biggest problem with any single payer bill whether it’s public option or Medicare for all is that something is going to have to be included in the bill to address the lower reimbursement rates for medical professionals. They’re going to have to do free or reduced costs for grad school for medical students IMO because no one is gonna go 300K and 8 years of life in debt to get paid less
