    awful

  2. Which was later expanded upon and I think the extra context is important. And, again I do think mental health reform should go hand in hand with gun reform as the vast majority of gun deaths are suicides and that needs to be part of any solution.

I am against anything that increases the capabilities of the carceral state. That’s where I stand. That includes putting “mentally unstable” people on a list that law enforcement has access to. I’m against giving more power to organizations known for wreaking havoc in those communities. If this is where you want energy directed, fine. Do whatever you want. I would prefer not to because I’ve seen this play out before and it never ends up well for anyone other than the classes/groups already afforded protection by state power.

Just going to post this again:

  5. So now we've moved from "I don't think this group of 15 people represents the will of the gun control movement" to I, Jason, specifically want energy directed toward the things I specifically said didn't represent the gun control movement.

    Yeah, ok. That makes sense.

You made it a point to post a clarification of what he said, ostensibly because, to you, there’s some meaningful difference between that quote and what I said. I responded to it by stating that anything that enhances the power of institutions that brutalize specific communities is something which I’m against. This continues to be a game of “actually what I’m talking about is...”, but I’m not interested in that. I’m interested in actually making sure the things that marginalized people are saying are considered legitimate and they have a voice that can be heard and can be involved in crafting any policy put forward. I’m not interested in any policing of the discourse to the point where their grievances are pushed out of it. You said “don’t let good be the enemy of perfect”, so you know what’s actually being discussed here. Their grievances aren’t about “perfection”, they’re about trying to live. If you don’t want to talk about that or want to talk about something else, then fine. But, that’s what we’ve been talking about.

  11. Scarfolk is a dystopian satire site about an English town that’s stuck in a 1970s time loop.
Scarfolk is a town in North West England that did not progress beyond 1979. Instead, the entire decade of the 1970s loops ad infinitum. Here in Scarfolk, pagan rituals blend seamlessly with science; hauntology is a compulsory subject at school, and everyone must be in bed by 8pm because they are perpetually running a slight fever. “Visit Scarfolk today. Our number one priority is keeping rabies at bay.” For more information please reread.

There is nothing that Trump can do that could change these people’s mind about him.

I guess what happens in 2020 will depend on how many like-minded individuals there are.

  22. More on Bolton: Him and Cheney purposely changed the way the intelligence community handled raw intelligence so they could personally feed massive amounts of it to Bush in order to get him to cede control over foreign policy to them:

"Eventually, Thielmann said, Bolton demanded that he and his staff have direct electronic access to sensitive intelligence, such as foreign-agent reports and electronic intercepts. In previous Administrations, such data had been made available to under-secretaries only after it was analyzed, usually in the specially secured offices of INR. The whole point of the intelligence system in place, according to Thielmann, was “to prevent raw intelligence from getting to people who would be misled.” Bolton, however, wanted his aides to receive and assign intelligence analyses and assessments using the raw data. In essence, the under-secretary would be running his own intelligence operation, without any guidance or support. “He surrounded himself with a hand-chosen group of loyalists, and found a way to get C.I.A. information directly,” Thielmann said."

Trump is at least twice as dumb as George W. Bush so this is going to go well.

Glad the people leveling Iran will support gun control tho
