Coffee all over my damn keyboard.

 

I'm currently listening to the most horrifically racist garbage spewing out of someone's mouth who comes into our office every now and then and I want to die. I wish I could say something but I know if I did I would be the one ending up in trouble. It's insane.

 

Because we didn't already know this....

 

Are they above you in some hierarchy or seniority? HR can't do anything? What kind of shit are they saying?

 

Just ask questions. Sometimes asking people to explain their horrible logic opens their eyes.

No, this is not someone I want to engage with in any way. She's like the epitome of an elderly southern Trump fan. She just comes in just to "chat" sometimes and today was a special brand of awful.

 

Is she a customer? A vendor? A colleague?

 

Sort of hard to explain really. But she's connected in a way where I can't just tell her to stop. It's a very small office.

 

Totally understandable and everyone would approach that differently. I think for me, in any situation, I would probably say *something* but it would depend on who it is. At minimum, I'd probably ask them to change the subject or just refrain from bringing that type of stuff up in an office environment.

 

personally i would ignore it and let it make me extremely mad all day because the only thing politics is good for is making myself angry

Yeah, it's kind of impossible to explain the situation without going into more detail than I'm comfortable with, but saying anything at all is pretty much out of the question. It just sucks because normally everything is really chill and it's just me and one other person here but sometimes this happens. The only thing that's "good" about it is it keeps me from ever thinking that people with these opinions aren't actually around me. Can't ever get complacent with this glaring reminder in the next room.
