It's almost like when you let three or four companies control damn near 80% of the market that they then can do their capitalism thing it would be a bad thing....who would have thought.

There really should be a law passed regarding the allowable brightness of a car's headlights. The car manufacturers can claim safety all they want but it just creates a bigger hazard blinding the people in front of you. Nothing I hate more than when one of those cars or trucks with ultra-bright LED headlights is right behind me. Can never tell whether I should be mad at them cause they have their high beams on or if it's just their normal obnoxious lights.

My car's headlights are too bright. I do appreciate that they are LED's tho. The old bulbs sucked.

As your resident automotive lighting expert, there is a law on how many candelas headlamps can produce, even down to the state level this is in play as well. I think the big difference is now we are using LED's in our headlamps more which typically produce a whiter look than say a bulb headlamp did and a stronger lumen output. This coupled with the prevalence of trucks and SUV's those vehicle types sets the lamp level at a higher physical level for people who are driving cars or lower height CUV's/SUV's. That also plays into the fact that automakers are going for higher safety ratings which your headlights play a big role in how that service rates vehicles. As I have mentioned before in here, we have the technology to selectively turn off segments of the LED's that shine into oncoming driver's eyes along with other things like reflective signs. That technology is not approved in the USA like it is in Europe. It also makes the headlights themselves more expensive so you typically see them on higher end cars or more expensive SUV's. There is also auto leveling technology but that again is expensive and has a lot of parts that need to be maintained.

That whole long explanation does not get into the fact that this does not take into account the fact that people put aftermarket shit on their cars that can blow past what the laws are and is really never enforced by police. Also as we get older our eyes have a harder time adjusting to the glare/light produced from headlights in the dark so we start to notice it a lot more than say when most of us were in our early 20's.

Is delegitimizing the supreme court really something we want?

A delegitimized supreme court means the red states can still ban abortions, ban gay marriage, prevent poor people from voting, etc...

overall, the supreme court does far more to protect the rights of people in red states than it does to restrict the rights of people in blue states.
