It could go one of two ways really:

The committee could determine that the privilege doesn't apply, either because the testimony wouldn't be incriminating or they believe he has waived the privilege, and insist he testify. At that point, it will likely go to the courts to resolve (which would take a while).

Alternatively, the committee could grant him immunity, which would negate his privilege. Basically, they give him assurances that anything he testified to would not be used against him in a criminal trial.

In a trial, the result of someone (besides a criminal defendant in their specific trial) invoking the 5th is that the fact finder can draw a negative inference from their refusal, eg "This witness refused to say yes or no to X, therefore you jurors are allowed to assume the worst."

But with a congressional committee that's just investigatory, (1) the results don't actually matter, in the sense that's there's no inherent legal or political events that are triggered by its conclusion, and (2) I don't know how much the members could/would be able to be like "Since he didn't answer this question, we are free to assume the worst"

  7. Covid cases are also probably going up due to waning immunity from vaccines (get boosted!) and now holiday travel.

I was also thinking more about NH's high cases and it kind of makes sense even based on the accessibility of testing here. Our governor partnered with Amazon recently to ship free tests to people's homes and they ran completely out of stock. I doubt you'll see that many people in Florida bothering to test themselves

    Michigan Covid cases on Nov. 30th 2020: 10,576 with a 7-day average of 6,840.

Michigan Covid cases on Nov. 29th 2021*: 27,734 with a7-day average of 6,822. Granted, 11/29 was a Monday so that's a 3-day count of 'new' cases, but even still that's 9200+ cases per day, which is the highest 7-day average for Michigan since the pandemic started. Previous highs were around 8700 cases, earlier in November 2021.

I feel like I haven't seen more than 30% of people anywhere in SW Michigan wearing a mask in like 3 months.

    *=Nov. 30th 2021 doesn't have cases reported for it.

If they have boat access and cross the St. Clair, they’d probably have a decent shot at getting away to be honest.

With everything that has come out today, I honestly do feel that those two parents are equally as responsible for the massacre at that school as the kid who pulled the trigger is. I hope they are able to find them.

Wait so you're telling me the cops announcing that they intended to charge the parents actually backfired because it gave them advanced warning?
