The same one Joe Biden is. Aka, the one where the large majority of voters arent the online left lol. Pete had a pretty decent showing in the primaries almost specifically because he has a pleasant personality and a good smile and is good at talking to people and etc. It certainly wasn't because of accomplishments as a national leader or experience that got him there lol

He’s likable if the media says he is likable, i think is the takeaway from 2020.

He finished a close 2nd in Iowa and New Hampshire. People "like" him. Part of that is definitely media driven, but, yeah.

If that continues to hold through the data in other places, over more cases, etc., then yes, very good. This is very much just anecdotal though, even if it comes from a doctor.

But outside of complete eradication (highly unlikely) the best-case scenario is a variant that is less serious/deadly, but likely spreads more easily, and is (hopefully) not vaccine resistant. It's going to become something we just have to live with along with cold and flu viruses.

Gotta imagine this is going to be bad business for Twitter, especially if Trump is allowed back on. I refuse to use a platform that allows that asshole to spout harmful nonsense. I know a lot of people who would leave the platform if it turns into Facebook 2.0.

I recently found out that meathead Navy Seal Jocko Willink guy that reactionaries love so much was in involved in the late 80's New England Straight Edge Hardcore scene before he joined the Seals, and as a teen was in a band with the guy who founded Friends Stand United. I'm not surprised at all lol

Prime example of my "straight edge hardcore bro teen to shithead conservative reactionary adult pipeline" theory.

I have a question why did idiots on twitter start using "leftists" as a blanket statement for center-right blue dogs? What was wrong with liberal?

Did they just see a new fancy word they didn't recognize and co-opt it immediately? Or are some of them trying to counter the rising prominence of leftism by conflating it with neoliberalism?

Conservatives need their base to live in fear and calling every Democrat a socialist achieves that goal

It's a quote taken from a doctor who I believe based it on 7 university students (young people without health issues) who didn't need to be hospitalized. It's been taken a bit out of context by the media, but most recent WHO report addressed by basically saying "there is no reason to expect any difference in symptoms at this time, but really we have no idea yet." Obviously a significant drop in deadliness would be great, but with just about 100 confirmed cases globally and none before two weeks ago, it's way too early to tell. Hospitalizations in the region of SA where the first outbreak occured though have tripled in the last two weeks

Here's the most recent statement from the WHO, saying what they know about Omicron (not much as of yet):

Mayo Pete is not likable and any dems pushing that narrative are woefully misreading the landscape.

Pete was a relative unknown who was given fawning media coverage in the primary because he was the shiny new thing and his past signaled to the right people that he would be favorable to capital and the hawkish foreign policy sect. And even with ALL OF THAT, he flamed out miserably.

Joe Biden, on the other hand, had decades to build his name recognition, develop a proven track record of being favorable to capital, and cultivate positive favorability numbers. He then built up a HUGE well of good faith among voters by becoming a beloved meme during the Obama years. The media onslaught that comes with a general election could only do so much damage to that.

Pete has no such cushion. I would predict Pete ends a general election with his favorability nearly underwater. The media will accept any framing from conservatives and there will be no built in good will with voters to counter act that narrative. That's just how it works.

Yeah it's a good point re: Biden being so well-liked as some kind of lovable grandpa figure by general voters. That was a major asset of his in 2020. Pete has nothing even remotely close to the Aviators & Ice Cream thing.
