I'm not convinced that Murphy is going to lose yet, since there still seems to be a ton in Essex. But him losing Bergen by 5 points is a terrible sign after it went for him 57-42 in 2017. As I've said, wasn't expecting much tonight, but this has been surprisingly bad

Edit: I guess David's post clarifies things there and indicates that Bergen does not have 98% reporting like the NYT claims

Big bump from Essex right now (about 120,000 votes) and Murphy is still losing by nearly 1%? Um....

Bunch of Essex county votes came in, but Murphy still down by like 18k votes in NJ. Unclear if there are enough votes left for him to make up. Maybe with mail ins?

Murphy now down just 0.5%. Still 0% reporting from Salem

Family leave and pre-k for 3 and 4 year olds was part of McAuliffe's plan. He had some legitimately great policy ideas. Apparently they don't want it. Honestly, probably more so that he campaigned poorly on those issues.

Youngkin says he's going to shift focus to charter schools and fight CRT and that seemed to resonate more with the pearl clutching "won't you think of the children" suburban white women. So... that's great.

Looks like Salem is small and red?

Meanwhile Murphy should find a bunch of votes here:

But yeah. Depends on how much votes are left in Essex to pick vs how much he loses elsewhere.

Little wins here and there. We had some elections on the county and city levels here in southern NM today and I'm happy to learn that the trump-lite of the election (who fearmongered the elderly into voting against new affordable housing) has swiftly been defeated, which is extra sweet because he was running in one of the wealthier districts here.

Yeah Salem leans red but also has the lowest population.

I definitely don't think we are getting a call tonight with a lot of mail-in ballots still left. Ideally, that should put him over the top but I will admit I am nervous.

Bergen is a country of rich assholes. Essex county won’t let me down except for the town of Nutley. Fuck those guys.

Fowler is my rep. Super proud of her. Askew is my parent's rep. He capped insulin prices in VA last year. They were both killing it with legislation during the Dems trifecta. Makes me happy to see them holding the line.

Was hoping to see Nancy Guy in the 83rd pull ahead looking at what precincts are missing. It's going to be VERY close. A tie is something, I guess, as I don't expect Dems to hold the State Senate during Youngkin's term.

Something weird happening in Somerset. Like I tracking the numbers in each county to see what you could project shit out to. And noticed Ciatterelli suddenly gained like 12k votes there and Murphy gained none. No idea if its an error that is gonna be fixed, or them fixing an error, but a swing like that could easily be the deciding bit in a race this close.
