I thought it would take a little longer to get around to it, but yeah there's no reason they couldn't have gotten something done in the last four weeks. I would think you could even get some Republicans behind a more "targeted" moratorium (which would still suck, but at least it's something, although of course you could always just end the filibuster)

Take a look at the rental market right now and tell me where people being evicted are supposed to go. What a heartless country this is at its core

Filibuster isn’t going anywhere, these people don’t give a shit about the millions of newly homeless, just like they don’t care about the thousands dying everyday.

    the system is incredibly broken

And let’s be clear about something: this is the outcome Democrats wanted.

We know several Dems were sympathetic to the landlords and didn’t want to publicly say it. This lets them blame SCOTUS in public while breathing a sigh of relief in private.

Another good majority of Dems want this as an issue during the midterms. They will put the onus on the newly homeless to go out and vote. If they lose, they can just do what they do best: blame the “lazy voters” and the left.

And then some small # of Dems actually wanted to pass a bill to help, but they are but a whisper.

I haven't seen any polling on it, but I would guess well over 80% of Dem voters are in favor of ending it. Not sure how many Senators (plus Biden) are holding it up but it does feel like the general party opinion is that the filibuster should go. It's just that people like Schumer are saying it very, very quietly while the centrists are very loudly proclaiming that nothing could change their mind. I think that it's heading towards a climax in some capacity, but do I see Manchin et al changing their mind before midterms? Frustratingly no, and after that it may be too late

  12. The Eviction Crisis Is a Rental Assistance Crisis
Make no mistake: we are in this mess because a fully funded Congressional program spent only 6 percent of its allocation in five months, leaving six million renters behind. We have a serious problem with government functioning in America, punctuated by an obsession with means testing and state experimentation that has turned everyone needing relief into an unpaid government bureaucrat, having their free time taxed with paperwork and endless hassles. House Democrats and the White House should spend less time trying to shift blame for these failures and more time designing ways for their stated ambitions to actually work.

They’ll finally grow the balls to end the filibuster next October, right before being swept and seeing the gop use the ended filibuster to annihilate anything good remaining

Can confirm. I applied for rental assistance and it was a nightmare. Sent in my application 6 months ago and my city govt has been stringing me along with "you'll hear something soon!" and various other bullshit answers. A few of my friends who have applied are dealing with the same thing. This kind of shit is exactly why lower class citizens just don't vote. We are fucked regardless of who we check off on the ballot.

  22. Reddit Responds to Calls From Moderators to Fight Disinformation
Huffman began by saying the CDC was the best source of up to date information about the pandemic and urged people to get vaccinated. “We appreciate that not everyone agrees with the current approach to getting us all through the pandemic, and some are still wary of vaccinations,” Huffman said. “Dissent is a part of Reddit and the foundation of democracy. Reddit is a place for open and authentic discussion and debate. This includes conversations that question or disagree with popular consensus. This includes conversations that criticize those that disagree with the majority opinion. This includes protests that criticize or object to our decisions on which communities to ban from the platform.”

    I just … sigh
