They did the thing where they leave out the extraordinarily favorable circumstances that allow for this chart. He gets help from his parents and has a few roommates

 

Its like when 12 paragraphs down they try to casually slip in that this person only has a 'modest' trust fund or that their parents just handed them cash for a huge down payment or something like that.

 

How do these “articles” still get written? And why? What’s the audience for this?

 

I looked into home cleaning when we moved into a house for rent and it's like 100+ each week for a 1600sft home sooo. Their budget is nothing like mine at all lol

 

I have to leave a $50 on the floor every week for the Roomba to suck up so it doesn't kill me in my sleep.

On the earlier topic of gate-keeping socialism while stupid, my liberal friend and i were out for a walk recently and i pointed out that the wine shop in our neighborhood had a Lenin quote in its window and thought that was cool and he said in the smuggest way possible “they’re socialists but they sell expensive wines?” and i wanted to deck the dude lol i told him that’s not what socialism means and he said “i disagree”?

 

Late to the party but I’m now making around $130k/year with no degree yet I still can’t get a leg up on saving for a house or retirement because I have to live in Los Angeles, and while I have no student debt I had a ton of medical debt from having to put an ER visit/hospital stay on multiple credit cards when I had bad insurance that wouldn’t cover most of it and spent years racking up interest before I made enough money to finally start paying it off. Good system imo. I still feel lucky

 

I make about $95K and my wife makes around $65K, and yeah, our life is better than it was like 5 years ago but I would not say we are “getting ahead” - we definitely can’t afford a house in an area we want to/can live in that’s close to our jobs, and having kids (which we both want to do) still feels like an impossibility financially esp. with our family being in other states.

We’re both teachers, so I think our combined income this past year was 110K or so. Of course the flip side of that is we have ridiculously awesome health care benefits and a fully funded pension, so..

 

It's interesting they show the average instead of the median. I'm sure there are some rich-ass millennials pulling up that average. I would guess the median is notably lower.

 

Just cut my salary in half to be a teacher haha

 

I’m just about to hit $20k in savings and I feel like I’m swimming in money; never had anywhere close to this much saved before. Savings will be used though for my upcoming move abroad
