So is Gaetz not going to be charged with anything? I’m confused how all these GOP reps, along with Trump, have been called out over the past 6yrs for committing crimes…yet there’s been no consequences for anyone?

A one-of-a-kind album recorded by the Wu-Tang Clan and sold at auction to the disgraced pharmaceutical executive and hedge fund manager Martin Shkreli has been purchased by an anonymous buyer for an undisclosed sum of money, the federal prosecutors who seized the album three years ago said.

Jacquelyn M. Kasulis, the acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, announced the sale of the one known copy of the album, Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, in a news release on Tuesday. The terms of the sale required the government to keep the purchase price and the buyer secret, but the sale satisfied the balance that Mr. Shkreli had owed the government.

Why should we take a step backwards towards mask mandates and restrictions again? If it's a ploy to try to protect those too stubborn to protect themselves, they are not going to listen so it'll fail. To those that don't want the vaccine, and don't want to wear a mask, fine... what can we do besides making it mandatory (yeah right) or businesses risking suicide by enforcing vaccinations?. I am vaccinated and not worried about a serious breakthrough infection, and I am not worried about spreading it to family or friends (all vaccinated) so why should I (or any of us that got vaccinated) now have to be put back into mask mandate and limited capacity situations again? Any restrictions that come out now aren't going to do anything if the unvaccinated ignore them (which is 100% what will happen).

While I agree I don't think changing the guidance again is going to convince a meaningful amount of people to go along again, they did it because they are seeing an alarming rate of breakthrough cases.

Also, while you personally may not be worried about a breakthrough case for yourself, I'm sure there are plenty of people who are, and that line of thinking (only thinking about the individual) is precisely why (among some other reasons) we are in the situation we're in

Because not everyone can currently get vaccinated (see: all children under the age of 12) and the purpose of masks has always primarily been to prevent those who may be carrying the virus from spreading it to others, not to prevent the mask wearer from catching it.

I don't think it's quite yet clear with the Delta variant (or I may just not be up to date on the data) whether vaccinated people can be asymptomatic carriers/spreaders of the virus, or how contagious they may be if they have a breakthrough case and their symptoms are mild.

it's actually not just that, you can get it and you can spread it even though you have been vaccinated.

and as the posts above me correctly pointed out, not everyone can get the vaccine, be that due to eligibility or medical condition(s).

I also think more businesses do need to start requiring vaccines and enforcing those requirements and that the government should be pushing businesses to do so.

We know that there is a large population that is not going to listen to the government, but every article I read about vaccine hesitancy has at least one line stating that a significant number of those people say they would get vaccinated if it means they're going to start missing out on stuff.

I mean, with football season coming up, if people can't go to the bar to watch the game you bet your ass they're going to start getting vaxxed.

One thing I will say is that reinstating mask mandates won't be encouraging more people to get the vaccine, If anything it gives the false narrative that the vaccines aren't working like they should.

Really wish more places would start requiring vaccinations. Major things like concerts and sporting events at the very least. People need some sort of "punishment" for not getting vaccinated. What I mean by that is that they won't be able to do everything a vaccinated person can do. France and Italy's "health passes" are a good idea, but our government doesn't have the guts to do that.

Also from a personal perspective, people I have talked to that didn't get vaccinated aren't all necessarily not getting it because they think it's unsafe, but they just don't think they need it so they won't go through the trouble to get it.

Restrict what they can do and maybe they'll go through the trouble to get it.

I was listening to the NYT's Popcast about concerts and one of the guys was talking about the Foo Fighters' comeback show and how even though they checked vax cards, you could easily falsify one or just have a fake one in general, since they're not going to give it more than cursory glance. It just sucks that so much is in the hands of the most stubborn people.

We should not want people to die even if they have bad beliefs and make bad choices, unless they're actively encouraging people not to get vaccinated

I also think "I don't care if you die you dumb pos" probably won't encourage people to get vaccinated

Maybe it's because the people that I know that won't get vaccinated, won't get it because it's their right as an American not to, and getting it because they're told to, even though they're not in an at risk group, is giving up the principles of freedom that make America great... They aren't worried about being sick, so it should be their right, as a citizen in the freest country in the world to not get it, and any attempts to force it on them are anti-American. It's like that guy on the hospital bed who had covid and said he still wouldn't get the vaccine as it's being shoved down their throat and they don't like that. How (and why) would I want to reason with those people and also accept giving up my return to normalcy for those people? I guess I was not aware of any vulnerable people who can't get vaccinated but want to (disease/access etc). It was extremely easy to get the vaccine here and the sites seemed to be widespread and available.

EDIT: I don't have kids, so I don't argue this point with anyone that does as I'm stating only hypotheticals, but I don't see an issue with requiring masks/social distancing at school.

There needs to be a real punishment for not getting vaccinated. It's the only thing that will work with these people. Vaccine passports need to become a thing, can't go to movie theaters, concerts, theme parks, etc. without them. Can't fly or travel by train without them. Anything short of that is pointless as of now.
