(small) Gusts of wind can cause unsecured carts to dart out in front of cars, hit cars, hit people, cause crashes. I worked for a grocery store for two years in high school and personally saw, or heard about, all of the above.

Years ago, my car had a huge yellow scratch going across the side of my car due to a unsecured Best Buy cart slamming, and sliding, across my car. Not sure if wind blew it or a car slammed into it and it hit mine, but nonetheless, it was damage that was easily preventable.

Also, when people leave a cart in a parking spot, it can fuck up the parking for everyone else.

Yeah no excuses put your cart where it goes. My first job was in the lot at ikea and I hated anyone that just left their cart wherever.

As a former cart gatherer at work, I loved when people left carts around the lot because it kept me busy and helped kill time, but as an adult customer, that shit pisses me off to no end when I'm trying to find a parking space

Understood. To be fair, I always find a place to put my carts where it's not in anyone's way. I never leave it in a space, because I too hate that. I try to be cognizant of that sort of thing.

This looks like something my conservative relatives would post to Facebook because it makes them feel like a good person for returning their cart even though they’re still bigoted people.

Around where I live, no one ever returns the shopping cart and society hasn't collapsed yet

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Not returning a cart is a shitty thing to do for every reason mentioned already. The amount of scuffs I’ve had on previous cars because of people just not putting them away is ridiculous.

I think we should talk about grocery bags for the next five pages.

  16. If you don't return the cart, you gotta leave a bag in it

That reminds me, the local dads group had a post in it bitching about the plastic bag ban that went into effect here July 1st. His biggest complaint was one store charging him 5 cents for paper bags but yeah in the comments he went on anti-environmentalist ragers and what not. But anyway I responded telling him to just bring reusable bags and his excuse for not being able to is he already has his keys, his wallet, and his gun with him, so it’s too much to carry.

    Lol

I'm going to modify a shopping cart and put an engine on it so I can drive it into a space.

Yeah, return your goddamn cart. It's so easy. Also, don't spend 5-10 minutes slowly cruising the lot for the ultimate parking space closest to the store. Unless you're not physically capable of walking a bit, leave those spots for people who truly need them. Even if you're in a hurry, I'm willing to wager that immediately parking and walking is faster than constantly looping the lot.
